The Intellectual Property Data Analyst will turn patent and technology data into actionable intelligence that supports Schwab’s innovation and intellectual property objectives. This role focuses on business and patent analytics for portfolio benchmarking, technology landscape assessments, whitespace and trend analysis and competitive intelligence and develop dashboards and leadership-ready insights to support Schwab’s Intellectual Property strategy. The Analyst will provide intelligence that helps inform where Schwab should build, partner, or further evaluate opportunities while improving the analytical foundation for patent portfolio decisions and executive reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate patent portfolios for trends, growth, quality, technology coverage, and overall portfolio health.
  • Develop metrics and insights that support Schwab’s portfolio decisions.
  • Monitor competitors, technology trends, and patent activity across key priority domains.
  • Identify opportunities, risks, emerging technologies, and innovation trends that may impact the company.
  • Create dashboards, presentations, and recurring reports that summarize portfolio activity, technology trends, and competitive developments that present complex information in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Partner with the Schwab Patent Office Director and business or technology teams to coordinate targeted invention-harvesting sessions.
  • Review innovation themes, project information, and technology initiatives to help identify areas where patent, trade secret, or other innovation-protection approaches may warrant further evaluation .
  • Monitor external developments relevant to patent, trade secret, and innovation protection strategies.
  • Assist with preparing materials for invention workshops, Patent Forums, and innovation discussions.
  • Maintain data quality and research resources.
  • Collect, validate, and organize data from patent databases and other research sources.
  • Maintain consistent reporting standards, research methods, and supporting documentation.

Success Measures:

  • Patent portfolio, competitive intelligence, and technology landscape analyses produce clear insights that inform filing priorities, protection strategy, and leadership decisions.
  • Dashboards, visualizations, and recurring reports are accurate, timely, easy to interpret, and tailored to Legal, Technology, and executive audiences.
  • Competitive monitoring identifies meaningful technology trends, whitespace opportunities, portfolio risks, and emerging innovation areas relevant to Schwab.
  • Innovation-harvesting support helps Patent Office leadership and technology teams focus discussions on areas with strong protection potential.
  • Research methods, data sources, and reporting standards are documented, repeatable, and continuously improved for quality and consistency.

What you have

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in patent analytics, competitive intelligence, portfolio analysis, technology research, business intelligence, or related analytical discipline.
  • Ability to analyze complex datasets, identify trends and gaps, validate findings, and translate results into concise recommendations for technical, legal, and executive audiences.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint, including data visualization, dashboard development, and leadership-ready storytelling.
  • Demonstrated research discipline, attention to data quality, and ability to manage recurring monitoring and ad hoc analysis across multiple technology domains.
  • Strong collaboration and facilitation skills, including the ability to work with inventors, technical leaders, Legal, and Schwab Patent Office stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registration in good standing as a patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Experience with patent databases or analytics platforms such as LexisNexis PatentSight+, PatSnap, Derwent, Innography, or comparable tools.
  • Experience creating process automation tools.
  • Experience supporting invention-harvesting, innovation strategy, market intelligence, or process automation.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
