ZigZag is looking for a Sr Business Analyst to join our team!
About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Business Analyst to join our APAC team and lead our Business Analyst function within Product. You will improve, define, and grow our product capability in the digital payments space for customers across the globe, primarily across the APAC region, connecting deep analysis to the decisions that shape our roadmap.
At the heart of this role is bridging the gap between business and technology. You will sit between commercial stakeholders and engineering, translating business needs into clear, well- structured requirements that engineers can build from, and translating technical constraints and possibilities back into language the business can act on. You make sure that what we build reflects genuine customer and commercial value, and that everyone shares a common understanding of the problem and the solution.
This is a senior role for someone who knows digital payments, is flexible, builds knowledge within teams, and works comfortably across multiple disciplines. You take a customer-first mindset and don’t settle for “good enough.” Like us, you have a passion for fintech and a genuine enthusiasm for data-driven decisions, and you lift the capability of everyone around you.
Key Responsibilities
Bridging Business and Technology
- Act as the primary link between commercial, operational, and technical teams, ensuring business goals are clearly understood by engineering and technical realities are clearly understood by the business.
- Elicit, analyse, and document business requirements, then translate them into clear functional and technical specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can deliver against.
- Map and model current and future-state processes, data flows, and system interactions to expose gaps, dependencies, and opportunities for improvement
- Translate technical concepts, trade-offs, and constraints into plain business language so stakeholders can make informed decisions.
- Facilitate alignment between stakeholders and engineers, resolving ambiguity early and keeping a shared understanding of scope, value, and priorities.
Insight & Analysis
- Build and maintain the product team’s knowledge of key aspects of our products and services, including technologies, social trends, economic conditions, regulations, and digital payments.
- Lead analysis across technical, financial, commercial, economic, and social topics, using both primary (direct) and secondary (desktop) research sources.
- Champion data-driven decision-making by owning the metrics, reporting, and visualisations the product team relies on to measure performance.
- Stay aware of the latest trends, payment methods, and technologies both inside and outside of fintech.
Opportunity & Business Cases
- Partner with product managers to identify opportunities across our products and the wider business, and shape them into well-defined problems.
- Conduct discovery, gathering qualitative and quantitative data from stakeholders, customers, and the wider industry, to size opportunities and understand their value, impact, and cost.
- Develop robust business cases and support pricing and commercial analysis that infor roadmap prioritisation and trade-off decisions.
Problem Solving & Delivery
- Identify challenges, blockers, and issues affecting operational effectiveness, and work with product managers and engineers to define, assess, document, and execute solutions.
- Take ownership of analysis and requirements projects end-to-end, applying a structured approach and running them effectively to a high standard.
- Support engineering delivery by clarifying requirements, answering questions, and validating that what is built meets the business need.
- Be mindful of relevant scheme, regulatory, and payment-network requirements, ensuring they are reflected in requirements, analysis, and recommendations.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Work closely with product, engineering, finance, and sales teams to improve existing products and services
- Support sales teams to understand and assess the most suitable data points for their customers, acting as a trusted analytical partner.
- Communicate frequently and clearly with stakeholders, crafting the message to suit the audience, whether engineers or operational and commercial teams.
Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop the Business Analyst team within Product, setting standards for analytical quality, requirements practice, and ways of working.
- Mentor analysts and raise the bar for rigour, ownership, and communication across the function.
- Foster a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- 5+ years’ experience in a Business Analyst or comparable role, ideally within financial services, payments, or digital business models.
- A proven ability to bridge business and technology, translating business needs into technical requirements and technical detail into business insight.
- Academic qualifications in a relevant field, preferably Computing, Business, Economics, Finance, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated understanding across a range of technologies, payment methods, business models, and customer problems.
- Experience writing clear requirements, user stories, and functional specifications, and working alongside engineering teams to deliver them.
- Hands-on experience with data reporting tools such as Looker, Tableau, SQL, and related applications.
- A structured approach to technical and financial problems, with a proven ability to take ownership and run projects effectively.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a global environment.
Desirable
- Experience leading or mentoring a team of analysts.
- Familiarity with the APAC payments landscape and regional regulatory requirements.
- Understanding of modern software architectures, APIs, and cloud platforms, enough to hold a credible conversation with engineers.
- Experience using process mapping and modelling tools (for example Miro, Draw.io) to illustrate problems and processes.
- Experience working alongside agile product and engineering teams, and exposure to experimentation, A/B testing, or pricing and commercial modelling.
