We are looking for a senior SQL Database Administrator operator who does not just keep the lights on. You design the wiring, own the uptime, and make things hum.
Role Overview:
We are seeking to employ a technically skilled MS SQL database administrator to be responsible for developing, maintaining and optimizing SQL databases, as well as translating business requirements into effective technical solutions. This position involves comprehensive oversight of the SQL database environment, including its design, clustering, maintenance and upgrades, while collaborating with other technical teams and developers to support the optimal functioning of systems.
As a SQL Database Analyst you will ensure the end-to-end operational stability, performance, security and lifecycle management of the organization’s Microsoft SQL Server estate. Focused on operations, this role is accountable for maintaining high availability, recoverability, performance optimization and governance across production and disaster recovery SQL environments.
Responsibilities Will Include the Following:
- Carry out daily SQL maintenance tasks to
guarantee high availability, sufficient capacity, and optimal performance of database systems.
- Manage and regulate access permissions and
privileges to maintain security and compliance.
- Develop, manage, and test backup and
recovery plans in collaboration with the backup team.
- Ensure the proper functioning of storage
and archiving procedures.
- Collaborate closely with IT project
managers, database developers, and software developers.
- Maintain regular communication with
technical, application, and operational staff to uphold database integrity and security.
- Oversee the commissioning and
implementation of new applications and the customisation of existing systems to ensure all solutions are fit for purpose.
- System Availability and Maintenance
- Develop and maintain processes to support
database effectiveness, including user access management, performance monitoring, regular backups, replication strategies, and timely patching.
- Oversee incident management to ensure
timely resolution, escalating performance, security, and availability concerns as necessary, and working with database vendors to resolve complex issues.
- Design, build, and manage database
structures for client applications, maintain data recovery, ensure database availability, uphold data integrity, and meet performance and capacity planning standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science,
Information Systems, or a related field 7–10 years working with Microsoft Server and Microsoft SQL Relevant certifications in Microsoft SQL or equivalent industry-recognized credentials Has deep expertise in ensuring database availability, implementing replication and planning disaster recovery Highly skilled with SQL Always-On Availability Groups as well as Database Mirroring technologies Experienced at handling multi-node SQL clusters Well-informed about SQL Datawarehouse systems
- Holds advanced skills in Microsoft SQL
Server, including knowledge of all current versions
- Demonstrates strong understanding of
general database concepts and how SQL leverages underlying infrastructure
- Integrates SQL with connectors like REST,
SOAP, ODBC, JDBC, ODBO, and other MSSQL-supported protocols
- Exhibits solid analytical abilities for
assessing and interpreting data
- Shows comprehensive understanding of
database structures, theories, principles and industry best practices
- Proven ability to manage database security
and permissions efficiently.
- Capable of identifying, evaluating and
mitigating risks linked to database management
- Has proficient knowledge of XML
(preferred)
