SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our mission is to reduce work-related fatalities, injuries and illnesses by ensuring workplaces comply with health and safety laws. About the role
This role sits in the Digital Solutions and Systems Performance team within the Data and Digital Systems Directorate of Strategic and Corporate Services. It is responsible for leading the design, development and delivery of end-to-end digital products and experiences that deliver meaningful customer value and support keeping workers in NSW safe and healthy. The role combines elements of product ownership and human-centred design to drive strategy, shape product direction and ensure the delivery of high-quality, accessible and user-focused solutions.
This is a senior, influential leadership role for someone who can turn complex regulatory, customer and system problems into clear product direction, practical solution options and prioritised delivery outcomes.
As the Principal Product Owner and Designer, you will be the link between customer insight, business value and technical delivery. You will work with CX designers, business analysts, developers, operational stakeholders across the full product lifecycle – from discovery and ideation through to delivery, support and continuous improvement, to shape digital solutions that are user-centred, feasible, scalable and aligned to organisational priorities and strategies.

About You
This role will suit someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy, customer experience, business value and technology. You will need to be a confident communicator, a practical problem solver and a strong collaborator who can turn complex needs into clear product direction, prioritised delivery outcomes and measurable service improvements.
This role would suit someone who is passionate about creating high-quality digital experiences and leading to deliver products that make a meaningful impact. You bring a strong balance of product leadership, strategic thinking, design expertise, and technical acumen with a focus on delivering value for customers and the organisation.
In addition, you may bring:
- Experience leading digital product development, service design or customer experience initiatives across the full lifecycle, from discovery and strategy through to delivery, adoption and continuous improvement.
- Strong product leadership and co-ordination skills, including the ability to define product vision, shape and develop roadmaps, strategies, manage backlogs and prioritise work based on customer value, organisational priorities, risk and evidence.
- Confidence working across complex stakeholder environments, including operational teams, policy areas, technology teams, vendors and senior leaders, with the communication and influencing skills to translate complex business, technical and customer needs into clear options, decisions and delivery outcomes.
- An understanding of accessible, inclusive and secure digital service delivery, including designing for diverse users and meeting accessibility expectations.
- Ability to embed UX thinking into product strategy and delivery, using user insights, journey analysis, prototyping and usability testing to create intuitive, accessible and high-value digital experiences.
- Exposure to digital transformation, legacy system improvement, regulatory services or government service delivery would be highly regarded.
