Role summary:

Walmart’s Search experience is a critical entry point for customers, shaping product discovery, purchase decisions, and overall shopping satisfaction. We are seeking a Principal Analyst, Search Product to partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Design, and Business teams across the end-to-end search stack—including query understanding, retrieval, ranking, post-retrieval optimization, and UI/UX. This role will define search success metrics, evaluate product and model innovations, uncover high-impact opportunities, and influence roadmap decisions through rigorous analytics and experimentation. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity and translates complex data into strategic product direction. About the team:

The Product Analytics team partners with Product, Engineering, Design, and Data Science to enable data-driven decisions throughout the eCommerce journey and Store Operations. This team delivers insights that guide product launches, optimization, and scaling to improve customer experiences and business results. Responsibilities include leading business reviews, exploratory analyses, opportunity sizing, and experiment evaluation. Positioned centrally in product decision-making, the team blends analytical expertise with business knowledge to influence initiatives from ideation to launch, collaborating cross-functionally to ensure measurable impact and ongoing product performance monitoring. What you'll do:

  • Lead analytics across the end-to-end Search product experience, including query understanding, retrieval, ranking, personalization, and UI/UX.
  • Define and evolve search health metrics to measure customer experience, relevance, and business impact.
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses and opportunity sizing to identify high-impact product improvements and influence roadmap priorities.
  • Design, execute, and interpret rigorous experiments (A/B, multivariate, Bayesian, and quasi-experimental) to evaluate product changes and guide launch decisions.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Design to optimize search performance and customer outcomes.
  • Build scalable analytical frameworks and communicate data-driven recommendations that shape product strategy and raise analytical excellence.

What you'll bring:

6+ years of experience in product analytics, data science, business analytics, or a related quantitative role, ideally in eCommerce, marketplace, search, recommendations, advertising, or consumer product experiences. Strong SQL and Python skills, with experience working with large-scale behavioral, transactional, or event-level datasets. Deep experience with experimentation, including metric selection, test design, statistical interpretation, guardrails, segmentation, and launch recommendations. Strong product judgment and the ability to connect customer behavior with business impact. Experience conducting ambiguous, high-impact analyses where the answer is not obvious and the problem needs to be structured from first principles. Ability to influence senior stakeholders through clear analytical narratives, dashboards and metric readouts.
