Job Description:
The Senior Network Engineer will support the FAA Cloud Services program by designing, integrating, securing, and maintaining hybrid network environments spanning on-premises infrastructure and public cloud platforms. The role will focus on network architecture, Fortinet firewall administration, connectivity, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, security, and integration of traditional enterprise networking with cloud-native services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy network architectures integrating FAA on-premises infrastructure with cloud environments.
- Ensure secure, reliable, and seamless connectivity across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Fortinet firewalls, including security policies, access controls, and network segmentation.
- Maintain and optimize routers, switches, firewalls, and other enterprise network infrastructure.
- Implement and maintain network security controls in accordance with organizational requirements and applicable industry standards.
- Conduct network security reviews, assessments, and configuration audits.
- Deploy and maintain monitoring solutions to track network availability, performance, utilization, and potential issues.
- Use software and hardware diagnostic tools to identify and resolve complex network performance and connectivity problems.
- Lead troubleshooting and response efforts for network incidents and outages.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring network issues.
- Integrate existing enterprise networking solutions with cloud-native networking services and architectures.
- Collaborate with cloud, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure network solutions meet technical and operational requirements.
- Develop and maintain network diagrams, configurations, standard operating procedures, troubleshooting documentation, and security policies.
- Evaluate emerging networking technologies and recommend solutions that improve performance, security, scalability, and reliability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant network engineering experience.
- Strong experience designing, configuring, and troubleshooting enterprise network environments.
- Experience configuring and managing routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Hands-on knowledge of Fortinet firewall technologies or comparable enterprise firewall platforms.
- Experience supporting hybrid environments connecting traditional data centers with cloud infrastructure.
- Strong network troubleshooting, performance analysis, and root cause analysis skills.
- Knowledge of network security principles, access controls, segmentation, and secure architecture.
- Ability to manage multiple technical priorities and adapt to new technologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex network concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong technical documentation skills and commitment to scalable, maintainable engineering practices.
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain an FAA Public Trust.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting AWS and/or Microsoft Azure networking environments.
- Experience integrating cloud-native networking services with enterprise on-premises infrastructure.
- Experience supporting large-scale federal or highly regulated enterprise environments.
- Current networking certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, MCSE, or comparable certifications.
- Experience with network monitoring, performance management, and automated infrastructure or configuration tools.
