Minimum qualifications:

  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 9 years of experience working in data centers, hospitals, power plants, HV electrical substations, or other mission-critical facility maintenance/operational experience.
  • Experience in project controls and programmable logic controllers.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays, and on shift-based schedules.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or other related engineering degree.
  • Experience with management of change and project management software.
  • Experience with TCP/IP, EtherNet IP, BacNet or MODBUS, IEC 61850 communication protocol.
  • Experience designing, configuring, programming, installing and troubleshooting building management system (BMS) and Electrical supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems application specific controllers and software such as Ignition and Factory Talk.
  • Understanding of engineering documentation, PMS/BMS drawings and standard operating procedures.
  • Track record for cultivating strong relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors, or customers, with excellent communication skills, teamwork, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

About the job:

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

As a master of exceptional practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

The Data Center Plant Engineer role involves the design and operation of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems to improve efficiencies. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing subject matter experts (SMEs), coordinating with Facilities Technicians, and approving bug fixes and repairs. You will also provide daily assistance to executive technicians in reading blueprints/schematics and assessing work orders.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $138000 - $200000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

  • Acts as an onsite technical lead in these efficiency areas and works with technicians, leads, and manager to drive site level programs.
  • Take a more strategic approach in EHS, operations, and maintenance programs to focus on compliance to those program requirements. Acts as a resource and mentor for Facilities Technicians (FTs) to drive improvements and feedback to programs.
  • Navigate organizational change processes including providing site level feedback, ensuring appropriate SMEs are included, coordinating with other FTs and managers to execute approved decisions, and properly closing out technical bugs.
  • Provide input and direction site teams in DC commissioning processes and procedures, commissioning or retesting requirements following replacement or major repairs, and acts as a site lead in collaborating with quality on quality issues or concerns.
