SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER

Reports to: Vice President Status: Regular, Full-Time, Exempt Location: Alaska (Frequent travel to rural villages)

JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Project Manager oversees the full lifecycle of multiple rural Alaska renewable energy projects within the Renewable Energy Systems portfolio. This role provides leadership from initial contract alignment through project commissioning and closeout. Responsibilities include budget management, subcontractor oversight, village and stakeholder coordination, logistics and freight planning, and on-site execution supervision.

The ideal candidate is detail driven, confident working in field environments, and adept at managing subcontractors and diverse stakeholder groups. Experience delivering complex infrastructure projects in remote or rural locations is essential.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead rail belt and multi‑village renewable energy projects from contract execution through final commissioning.
  • Develop and manage detailed project schedules, milestones, and resource plans.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure Issued‑For‑Construction (IFC) packages are complete prior to mobilization.
  • Drive accountability across internal teams and external partners.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, cost tracking, and forecasting.
  • Monitor cost‑to‑complete and maintain margin discipline.
  • Approve and track purchase orders and subcontractor invoices.
  • Manage change orders and ensure proper documentation and cost recovery.
  • Provide regular financial reporting to executive leadership.
  • Select, coordinate, and manage subcontractors.
  • Oversee scope execution, safety compliance, and schedule adherence.
  • Conduct regular field reviews and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure subcontractor alignment with project standards and quality expectations.
  • Serve as the primary project contact for village leadership and local stakeholders.
  • Coordinate use of village resources including equipment, facilities, and workforce.
  • Maintain professional communication with relevant representatives.
  • Ensure expectations, timelines, and responsibilities are clearly communicated.
  • Plan and oversee all freight, staging, and mobilization logistics.
  • Coordinate barges, air freight, and overland transport schedules.
  • Ensure materials arrive complete, on time, and within budget.
  • Track long‑lead items and mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Prevent costly remobilizations through disciplined pre‑planning.
  • Identify project risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, safety requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong financial acumen with demonstrated budget management experience.
  • Experience managing subcontractors in remote or rural environments.
  • Working knowledge of renewable energy systems, electrical infrastructure, or utility scale solar preferred.
  • High competency in scheduling tools and project management software.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage both executive and community level conversations.
  • Ability to anticipate logistical challenges unique to rural Alaska.
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills under field conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Seven or more years of progressive project management experience.
  • Demonstrated success delivering construction, infrastructure, or energy projects.
  • Experience managing project budgets exceeding $1M.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • PMP certification preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in Alaska and rural Alaska villages.
  • Experience with Alaska Native Corporations or tribal organizations.
  • Renewable energy or electrical contracting experience.
  • OSHA training and strong safety leadership background.
