Position Title: Technical Writer Location: Rosedale, BC or Grandbury, TX or Calgary, AB FLSA Class: EXEMPT Responsible to: Manager, Product Development
Position Summary: The Technical Writer is responsible for developing and maintaining product literature, technical manuals, and supporting engineering documentation. This position works closely with product designers, customer care representatives, and other departments to ensure technical information is accurate, clear, and easy to use.
This role supports product development and ongoing documentation needs by establishing consistent writing standards, improving work instructions, and translating technical information into practical guidance for customers and internal teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Create, update, and maintain customer product documentation, including operator’s manuals, maintenance manuals, serial number tracking documentation, and spare parts lists.
• Collaborate with product designers, customer care representatives, and other departments to gather technical information and ensure documentation accuracy.
• Work across departments to establish consistent documentation style, structure, and content.
• Provide engineering documentation support to relevant stakeholders.
• Apply technical writing standards and incorporate best practices and lessons learned into product documentation.
• Manage and continuously improve work instructions and other forms of technical instruction.
• Organize and present technical information using clear language and appropriate visual or graphic elements.
• Coordinate documentation projects, resources, and priorities to meet established deadlines.
• Follow safe work procedures and applicable workplace safety requirements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a college or university program in a related field.
• Proficiency in technical communication, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite applications, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong visual and graphic communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across departments in a team environment.
• Ability to manage projects, coordinate resources, and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, consistent documentation.
• Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with 3D software, including SolidWorks and Composer.
• Familiarity with product data management (PDM) systems.
• Experience using Syspro.
Training and Safety Requirements:
• Complete required company training covering work processes, quality processes, and respectful workplace practices.
• Complete in-house occupational health and safety training.
• Complete 5S, Lean 101, and WHMIS/HAZCOM training as required for the role.
• Follow established procedures for workstation ergonomics, office equipment use, material handling, travel, and working alone.
• Understand site emergency procedures and designated muster locations.
• Provide approved footwear. The company will provide other personal protective equipment required for the position.
