Full description

About Alta Ares

Alta Ares is an air defense Neoprime. We build AI-guided interceptors to counter drones and cruise missiles, along with the software platform that powers them.

Our customers are NATO-aligned militaries and defense institutions, and our systems are regularly deployed during live exercises and operational demonstrations across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Founded in 2024, we have grown to 90 people, raised over $60M, and increased revenue 40× this year. We are now entering a new phase of international expansion, industrial scaling, fundraising, and product development.

Role & Mission

DevOps at Alta Ares is a transverse position. The team operates as an internal consulting team: we provision and automate the tooling every project relies on, and we work directly with product teams to help them get the system, networking and security fundamentals right.

As a DevOps Intern, you will work across the full spread of our infrastructure: cloud, bare metal and IoT. One week you may be building automation that every engineer uses daily; the next, you may be running a proof of concept on deploying cloud technologies onto a tactical platform, where the usual assumptions about connectivity, hardware and security no longer hold.

You will report to the DevOps Lead and work alongside Software, Machine Learning and MLOps Engineers. This internship suits students who want real infrastructure ownership rather than ticket-shaped work, and who are curious about what changes when systems have to run in the field instead of in a datacenter.

Your responsibilities

Infrastructure & Automation

  • Build and maintain multi-platform infrastructure across cloud (GCP, Scaleway, …), bare metal and IoT/edge devices.
  • Write and improve infrastructure-as-code with Terraform, Ansible and Packer.
  • Provision and operate Kubernetes workloads.
  • Automate repetitive operational work so that engineers can self-serve.

CI/CD & Developer Tooling

  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines on GitHub Actions.
  • Improve build, packaging and release workflows across projects.
  • Contribute to the common tooling used by every engineering team at Alta Ares.

Internal Consulting & Architecture Support

  • Work with project teams to apply sound architectural patterns from a system, networking and security perspective.
  • Take part in refactoring and consulting work on subjects the DevOps team owns.
  • Document decisions and share practices so improvements outlive a single project.

R&T, De-risking & Tactical Platforms

  • Run proofs of concept and de-risking studies: the team works a little like an internal R&T lab.
  • Explore how cloud-native technologies can be integrated onto tactical and embedded platforms.
  • Report findings clearly so they can feed into product and infrastructure decisions.

Requirements

  • Engineering student in Software, Networking or Cybersecurity, looking for a 6-month internship or a 1-year apprenticeship.
  • Solid scripting skills, and Python in particular.
  • Good understanding of Docker and containerized environments; Kubernetes is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD on GitHub or GitLab.
  • Comfortable with Linux.
  • Knowledge of a cloud platform (GCP, AWS, Azure or Scaleway) is a plus, as is exposure to infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Professional working English; French-speaking candidates preferred.
  • This role is on-site.

We do not expect you to arrive knowing our whole stack. We do expect curiosity, rigour, and the willingness to dig into a system until you understand it.
