BizFirst is assisting our client with recruiting a skilled and experienced Software Engineer. This position supports the following program: a mission application development and cloud operations program that builds, deploys, and supports web applications, databases, and AWS cloud infrastructure for an Intelligence Community customer. The position is onsite at Fort Meade, MD, and the role is open now for an immediate start.

Our client is a Woman Owned Small Business that has supported U.S. defense and intelligence missions since 2012. Founded by two engineers, its systems, software, and hardware engineering teams model, analyze, design, integrate, develop, and deploy complex mission systems side by side with government customers, and the company also builds rugged RF hardware for specialized SIGINT applications. It works alongside many of the largest national security integrators and operates from Columbia, Maryland, near Fort Meade.

What will you do

Lead the front-end for a mission web application and set the standards the team builds to. You will architect and implement scalable, maintainable front-end solutions in modern frameworks, translate UX/UI designs and prototypes into responsive, accessible, production-ready interfaces, and mentor a team of UI developers through technical guidance and code review. You will work with backend engineers on API design and integration, contribute to full-stack work when it helps, and keep performance, cross-browser behavior, and technical debt under control. This role suits a senior front-end engineer who enjoys setting direction for a team and keeping design intent intact through implementation.

Responsibilities:

• Architect and implement scalable, maintainable front-end solutions using modern frameworks.
• Develop front-end web applications that turn UX/UI designs into accessible, production-ready interfaces.
• Lead and mentor a team of UI and front-end developers through technical guidance, standards, and code review.
• Translate prototypes and design specifications into functional, responsive, and accessible interfaces.
• Work with backend engineers to design and integrate APIs for efficient data flow between front-end and back-end systems.
• Contribute to full-stack development as needed, including backend services, database interactions, and deployment pipelines.
• Establish and enforce front-end coding standards, best practices, and component reuse across the team.
• Partner with UX/UI and systems engineers so design intent is preserved through implementation.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, cross-browser issues, and technical debt.
• Take part in sprint planning, technical estimation, and architectural decision-making.
• Keep development compliant with accessibility standards such as Section 508 and WCAG.

Requirements:

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science and twelve (12) years of software engineering experience. Sixteen (16) years of software engineering experience may substitute for the degree.
• Experience developing front-end web applications and translating UX/UI designs into production-ready interfaces.
• Experience leading and mentoring front-end or UI developers.
• Front-end framework experience with React, Angular, or Vue.
• Strong web technology skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Experience with Node.js and RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
• Agile development experience with Java and Python.
• Proficiency with the Linux/Ubuntu command line and shell/Bash scripting.
• Familiarity with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GovCloud).
• Working knowledge of accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG.
• Ability to work onsite at Fort Meade, MD.

Desired Skills

• Experience building interfaces for Intelligence Community or DoD mission systems.
• Experience with design systems and reusable component libraries.
• Experience with front-end testing frameworks and automated accessibility testing.
