QA Testing Internationalization Testing Localization Testing Device Testing Jira Mobile Testing IoT Testing iOS Android Charles Proxy Postman Agile Scrum Translation Management Systems Bug Tracking Accessibility Testing

Requirements

Requires hands-on experience in internationalization and localization testing, specifically for mobile and IoT devices. Candidates must possess strong knowledge of SDLC/STLC, debugging utilities like ADB and Xcode, and familiarity with translation management systems.

Full description

This is a remote position.

Responsibilities:

  • Device & Hardware Testing: Conduct rigorous testing across multiple physical devices (iOS, Android tablets/phones, desktops, and Smart Home and Health Devices) to verify functionality, responsiveness, and UI layouts.
  • Test Execution & Coverage: Develop, update, and execute comprehensive test plans, functional test cases, and exploratory test scenarios for new features and bug fixes.
  • Compatibility Testing: Test applications across varying system versions, screen resolutions and hardware specs to identify device-specific issues.
  • Defect Management: Identify, reproduce, and document detailed bug reports using tracking tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, Buganizer), including logs, steps to reproduce, screenshots, and video recordings.
  • Regression & Sanity Testing: Perform thorough regression cycles before production releases to ensure core functionality remains stable.
  • Internationalization Testing: Validate that application architecture supports multi-locale enablement without code modification (e.g., Unicode/UTF-8 support, string externalization, hard coded string detection, bi- directional text like RTL, variable expansion, and locale-aware sorting/filtering)
  • Localization Testing: Verify translated UI elements across multiple languages for accuracy, context, and formatting compliance (e.g., date/time formats, currency symbols, address layouts, dynamic pluralization, and text truncation/wrap issues).
  • Pseudo-Localization: Conduct pseudo-localization builds during early development cycles to catch hard coded strings, layout clipping, and character rendering errors early in the SDLC.
  • Linguistic & UI Quality Verification: Review UI for visual integrity across different screen sizes when localized strings expand or shrink; coordinate linguistic reviews with native-speaking linguists or translation agencies.
  • TMS & Localization Tooling: Manage translation asset workflows using Translation Management Systems (TMS) such as Smartling, Phrase, Transifex, or Lokalise, integrating them with code repositories and build pipeline

Requirements

  • Internationalization and Localization Experience
  • Device Testing: Smart Home and Health including smartwatches, health trackers, smart displays, speakers, home security cameras, and camera doorbells.
  • Hands-on experience in localization and Internationalization testing with a primary focus on mobile and physical device testing.
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC), and QA best practices.
  • Ability to think & execute testing from a user’s perspective
  • Technical i18n Knowledge: Strong understanding of character encoding (UTF-8, UTF-16), ICU standards, CLDR data, resource file formats (JSON, XML, .po, .strings, XLIFF), and Bidirectional (BiDi / RTL) layout handling.
  • L10n Testing Best Practices: Hands-on experience identifying truncation, text overlap, line wrapping, and font rendering issues across various localized builds.
  • Device Lab Familiarity: Hands-on experience testing on actual physical devices as well as cloud-based device testing platforms (e.g., BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, Kobiton).
  • OS & Tool Knowledge: Solid understanding of iOS (TestFlight, Xcode logs) and Android (ADB, Logcat, APK installation) ecosystems and debugging utilities.
  • API Tools: Basic familiarity with tools like Charles Proxy, Fiddler, Postman to inspect and debug device issues.
  • Core QA Skills: Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC), and QA best practices.
  • Basic understanding of test automation concepts or scripting to partner with automation engineers.
  • Experience testing IoT devices, wearables, or specialized embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing standards (WCAG, VoiceOver, TalkBack).
  • Tooling Proficiency: Experience with Translation Management Systems (e.g., Smartling, Phrase, Crowdin, Transifex) and defect management platforms (Jira).
  • Language Skills: Professional proficiency in English; fluency or native-level proficiency in additional languages is a strong plus.
  • Core QA Expertise: Solid understanding of software testing methodologies, test planning, and manual/exploratory testing techniques.
  • Methodologies: Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum development cycles and QA methodologies.
  • Familiarity with regional regulatory, privacy, or cultural standards in key international markets (e.g., EMEA, APAC, LATAM).
