JD - Data Scientist

Reports to: Power Trading Manager (Dotted line to Head of Power Trading) Location: Suzhou

Job Description: The Data Scientist will build the digital backbone of the trading floor. You will manage the department's data infrastructure, streamline reporting workflows, and leverage AI/machine learning techniques to enhance forecasting accuracy and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Database & Infrastructure Management:
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize the department's project database for trade data, market prices, and fundamental drivers.
  • Manage relationships and data feeds (API/FTP) with external market data providers.
  • Ensure data integrity, backup, and accessibility for all team members.
  • Digital Tools & Automation:
  • Design and implement automated reporting dashboards (using tools like Power BI or Tableau) for real-time P&L and risk monitoring.
  • Streamline trading support processes by automating repetitive tasks (e.g., data scraping, settlement reconciliation) using Python scripting.
  • AI & Advanced Analytics:
  • Support trading teams by developing machine learning models for short-term load forecasting and renewable generation prediction.
  • Collaborate with the Fundamental Analyst to integrate probabilistic forecasting into long-term price models.
  • Management Reporting:
  • Prepare advanced data visualizations and analytical summaries for management review and board presentations.

Qualifications & Profile:

  • Experience: 3+ years in a Data Science or Quantitative Analysis role, preferably in energy, commodities, or finance.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a quantitative field.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Essential: Advanced-level Python and SQL, knowhow in AI assisted coding.
  • Visualization: Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, etc.
  • Infrastructure: Knowledge of corporate IT infrastructure system.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on automation and efficiency.
  • Ability to communicate technical constraints and solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure with time management skills to handle urgent requests
  • Teamwork spirit
