Java/ API Engineer

Description

American Express is hiring a Java/API Engineer to support the development of scalable backend systems and microservices, enabling integration across enterprise platforms including data systems, customer experience platforms, and internal services. This role focuses on building high-performance APIs and distributed backend services, serving as a foundational layer for multiple applications and platforms.

Key Responsibilities Backend Development Design and develop RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot Build and maintain scalable backend applications supporting high-throughput systems Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices Microservices & Distributed Systems Develop and support microservices architectures that are resilient and scalable Work with distributed systems and asynchronous processing models Implement patterns such as circuit breakers, retries, and service discovery Messaging & Event Processing Work with Kafka or similar messaging systems to: Produce and consume event streams Support real-time or near real-time data processing Enable communication between services in an event-driven architecture Data & System Integration Integrate APIs with: Relational and NoSQL databases External services and third-party APIs Internal enterprise systems Support backend services that interact with data platforms and downstream analytics systems Cloud & DevOps Deploy and manage applications in a cloud environment (GCP preferred) Participate in CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Git, Maven) Support monitoring, logging, and performance optimization

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
