Job Description

U.S. Bank is seeking a highly experienced Software Engineering Manager, Healthcare Payments to lead the delivery of secure, scalable, and innovative healthcare payment solutions. This leader will drive modern engineering practices, advance AI-powered software development, and guide cloud modernization initiatives while leading high-performing engineering teams in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Software Engineers, Technical Leads, and Architects, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of healthcare payments applications and platforms, ensuring alignment with business objectives, quality standards, and customer outcomes.
  • Drive the design and implementation of Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST APIs, and Event-Driven Architectures to support scalable enterprise solutions.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, technical governance, Agile delivery practices, and secure software development methodologies.
  • Champion adoption of AI-assisted software development tools to improve code generation, testing automation, documentation quality, and engineering productivity.
  • Lead cloud modernization initiatives, including Kubernetes, containerization, CI/CD automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and platform engineering best practices.
  • Ensure operational excellence by improving system reliability, resiliency, observability, incident management, performance monitoring, and service-level objectives (SLOs).
  • Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, Infrastructure, and business stakeholders to define technology strategy, manage risk, and deliver strategic initiatives.

Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience - Six to eight years of relevant technical experience - Five or more years of leading a software engineering team

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Software Engineering Leadership experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing engineering teams, including workforce planning, talent development.
  • Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD) for large-scale enterprise applications.
  • Experience designing, building, and supporting distributed systems with a focus on scalability, resiliency, performance, and maintainability.
  • Proven success delivering complex applications in cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, or GCP, leveraging cloud-native architecture principles.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD Pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Git-based Development, and Platform Engineering practices.
  • Experience developing and modernizing Java-based applications using AI-assisted engineering tools, including Generative AI, AI-powered code generation, automated testing, intelligent code reviews, developer productivity platforms, and software delivery automation.
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps, Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) practices, automated quality engineering, security controls, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of Application Monitoring, Logging, Tracing, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Performance Engineering, Incident Management, and Operational Excellence practices.
  • Proven ability to lead cloud transformation, platform modernization, architecture modernization, and technology strategy initiatives while balancing business priorities and technical innovation.
  • Experience within Healthcare Payments, Healthcare Technology, Financial Services, FinTech, or other highly regulated industries, coupled with strong stakeholder management, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.

Location expectations  This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $126,820.00 - $149,200.00
