The BNSF Railway Finance Department provides innovative strategic solutions and world-class financial services to support BNSF's overall performance. Within the Finance Department, several specialized departments contribute to its overall mission: Controller, Revenue Management, Strategic Sourcing, Tax, Treasury, and Strategic Studies. Each department is vital in managing BNSF's financial health and strategic financial planning. These departments work collaboratively to secure BNSF's economic stability and support its growth and innovation within the railway industry.

 

This is a full-time position located in Fort Worth, TX.  For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely.  Our leaders also foster a culture where work life balance, which requires flexibility for when life happens, is important and respected.

 

This position will be a primary liaison between Finance and Engineering operations for the South Region. This position will have budgeting, forecasting and planning responsibilities for Engineering operations.

 

Key responsibilities may include: 

Development of processes, models, and reports to accurately monitor and forecast expenses.  Performing balance sheet accruals, analysis support, metric reporting, and other projects relative to informational needs of business partners utilizing various tools. Supporting the execution of the South Region’s capital plan.

Leading and facilitating monthly budget reviews and forecasts with South Region Engineering leadership. Assisting in the development of performance measures, strategic initiatives and annual plans. 

 

Daily work is conducted in an indoor office environment.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
  • 4 years’ experience in finance, accounting, or comparable industry experience.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to challenge and influence business partners with expense leverage concepts.
  • Ability to coordinate tasks and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to adjust readily to multiple demands and shifting priorities.
  • Personal computer skills (Office Suite) and ability to effectively use BNSF data systems.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of work experience in budgets and/or forecasting, or comparable industry experience.
  • Master's degree in Business or Accounting.
  • Apply statistical methods, machine learning algorithms, or data mining techniques to uncover patterns, trends, and insights.
  • Good understanding of BNSF’s responsibility income statement and forecast process.
  • Working knowledge of financial statements and accrual basis accounting and Engineering operations.
