Rol: Q&A DevOps Engineer

Location: Porto, Portugal

Type of contract: Permanent

Carrier is the leading worldwide provider of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, fire, security, and cold chain solutions. We invented the modern air conditioning, and our team of pioneers and innovators have a long history of developing new technologies.

Addvolt, now part of Carrier, global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions, delivers advanced electrification technology, integrated power management and power electronics capabilities for transport refrigeration and auxiliary systems.  Driving innovation in the electrification and decarbonization of onboard systems for refrigerated trailers, trucks, vans and containers, Addvolt empowers fleets to avoid fuel usage, reduce major emissions and operate efficiently at a remarkably low noise level. By combining Addvolt’s innovative power solutions with Carrier Transicold’s expertise in transport refrigeration, we are enhancing the value we deliver to fleets, original equipment manufacturers and logistics operators worldwide. Together with Carrier, we are accelerating the transition to a more sustainable, efficient and intelligent cold chain.

YOUR MISSION

As QA DevOps Engineer, you will own the quality automation strategy for our software platform, designing, building and maintaining automated test pipelines that catch issues before they reach production, and giving the engineering team fast, reliable feedback on every release.

  • Design, build and maintain automated test suites (functional, integration, regression, API and end-to-end) and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines so quality gates run on every commit and release.
  • Develop performance and load testing frameworks to validate new and existing services — measuring API response times/latency, throughput, error rates and behavior under load or stress.
  • Define, implement and continuously improve the QA process — test strategy, test plans, coverage tracking, defect management and release quality criteria — bringing structure and repeatability to how the team validates software.
  • Build and manage test infrastructure and tooling on AWS (e.g. EC2, ECS, Lambda, CloudWatch, S3), including provisioning ephemeral/test environments as part of the pipeline.
  • Collaborate closely with software, firmware and DevOps engineers to embed testability into system design, review architecture/requirements from a quality perspective, and identify risk areas early.
  • Monitor service health and performance in test and production-like environments, setting up dashboards, alerts and synthetic checks to proactively catch degradations (e.g. API delays, failed dependencies).
  • Own test data management and environment strategy, ensuring tests are reliable, reproducible and fast enough to run continuously without becoming a bottleneck.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipeline design (e.g. GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins), helping the team move towards more automated, self-service deployment and testing workflows.
  • Document test strategies, tooling and runbooks, and champion a quality-first mindset across the engineering organization.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Solid experience as a QA/Test Automation Engineer, SDET, or Software Engineer with a strong quality/testing focus.
  • Hands-on experience building automated test frameworks and API testing tools.
  • Practical experience with performance/load testing tools and comfortable interpreting the results (latency, throughput, error rates) to make go/no-go calls.
  • Working knowledge of AWS services relevant to testing and automation infrastructure (EC2, ECS/Fargate, Lambda, CloudWatch, S3, IAM); AWS certification is a plus.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or similar) and a genuine interest in DevOps practices.
  • Comfortable with scripting/programming (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar) to build and maintain test tooling.
  • Familiarity with containers (Docker) and, ideally, orchestration (Kubernetes/ECS); exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation) is a plus.
  • Understanding of monitoring/observability concepts (metrics, logs, traces, alerting) and how they relate to service reliability.
  • Detail-oriented and process-minded, with a proactive, ownership-driven approach to finding and preventing issues before customers do.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); Portuguese is a plus.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • The opportunity to build the quality automation backbone for a fast-growing, mission-driven technology company, from the ground up.
  • A collaborative, technical environment where you'll work closely with software, firmware, DevOps and hardware experts every day.
  • Real ownership over tooling, process and technical decisions, with room to shape how QA and automation evolve as the company scales.
  • Competitive compensation package, aligned with experience.
  • Flexible working model.
