What You Will Do
Pratt & Whitney's Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) organization is responsible for the engineering activities for the Fan/Low Pressure Compressor and High Pressure Compressor modules across all of P&W's military and commercial products.
CSE is seeking for an experienced and highly motivated Design Engineering Manager that serves as the direct line supervisor for a team of design engineers. The Design Engineering Manager provides oversight to a group of design engineers, handles task assignments, employee performance and results for the group. Is responsible for the design of CSE hardware through preliminary & detailed design, validation, certification, and support of manufacturing and operational service.
- Effectively lead the design engineering team to meet program demands. Sets priorities, allocates resources, review and approve design documentation and supervises staff to meet safety standards, quality requiremetns and schedule needs.
- Ensure support for multi-discipline teams to provide design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight.
- Actively identify and manage risks and resolve technical problems .
- Coach, train and develop the technical capabilities of design engineers. Responsible for the recruiting, retention and performance management of design engineers.
- Develop the required functional expertise of the team to ensure overall team capability meets current and future business needs.
- Regularly evaluate staffing / resource metrics with business managers, discipline directors and CIPT Leadership, and ensure adequate resource plans are in place.
- Travel is up to 10%
- English (read, write, speak) is required when communicating with customers, co-workers, or supervisors who only speak English.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- 8 years of design engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree in Engineering with 5 years of design engineering experience.
- Experience with CAD solid modeling (UG NX) and other modeling and analysis tools.

- Prior experience in part design and development, as well as in field and production support

- Compression Systems Engineering is responsible for the design, development, and in service support of all fans low-pressure and high-pressure compressors for commercial and military engine models. CSE is responsible for the identification and maturation of new technologies for these products.
