We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of Technical Engineering

Department Background: FIN - Foundations India

The Opportunity:

The role holder will be instrumental in delivering this core technology mission and will act as a thought leader in the execution of CTO’s ambition to ‘Build an Exceptional and Trusted Digital Experience for Colleagues & Clients’. This will mean helping to build and support a combination of data platforms and supporting tooling which can be used across CTO whilst ensuring solutions are aligned to the overall GCIO priorities.

To provide the foundations to achieve this mandate, the role holder will assume leadership of a number of existing teams within Foundations Technology.

As a senior leader managing global teams that are designing, building and operating critical services, the role holder will empower their teams to ‘get the basics right’ ensuring that all operational, commercial and risk and control targets are met.

To be successful, the role holder will need to partner with a diverse group of stakeholders including the Finance Value stream leadership, CTO, CDAO and COO. The role holder will need to ensure that all delivery commitments to these stakeholders across this diverse portfolio are honoured, whilst developing the strategy to drive future alignment and sharing across Functions, alongside maintaining operational excellence.

Through partnership with CDAO and CTO the role holder will play a key role in enabling the adoption of the Group Data strategy. The role holder will drive the evolution of the Group Data Strategy from a Foundations perspective.

What you’ll do:

  • Senior technology leader, accountable to the Head of Foundations Technology Data
  • Ensure Technology and operational risks are appropriately controlled in line with Group and business objectives
  • Drive the transformation of this estate, developing the target state architecture in line with business Target Operating models and Enterprise Technology architecture principles. Understand industry-wide trends.
  • Ensure in-scope technology outcomes on time and on budget in a manner consist with the target state architecture
  • Deliver solutions aligned to the GCIO priorities
  • Create a culture that embraces continuous improvement and enables technology and business innovation
  • Champion Agile practices
  • Ensure that there is nothing more important than production. Reduce interactive access to production systems through automation and ensure that all systems are engineered for resilience and security in line with CTO engineering principles

What you will need to succeed in the role

  • A good understanding of Financial Services with knowledge of the Finance and Financial Risk domains
  • Experience as senior technologist with a proven track record of on time delivery and effective management of a large production technology estate
  • Experience leading large, global technology teams driving innovation and creating an environment that supports and inspires people to develop and deliver
  • A strong engineering background and the ability to operate strategically whilst also drilling down into the detail with the engineering teams to provide engineering leadership
  • Ability to provide technical and conceptual thought leadership, successfully navigate areas of ambiguity and stakeholder disagreement to achieve required outcomes
  • Track record of DevOps and Agile adoption and optimisation in a complex, global environment
  • Effective program management and stakeholder management skills
  • Financial acumen with a strong understanding of budgeting and forecasting. Vendor management expertise
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills across all communities, with experience of successfully influencing senior stakeholders, negotiating effectively, and winning over audiences with compelling and persuasive presentations
  • Ability to lead and innovate in a global setting across a fragmented estate
  • Dynamic with an ability to drive culture change and engagement
  • Strong passion for technology and understanding how things work
