The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Manufacturing Engineering Manager (m/f/*) at the Hilden site serving AATD, IATD, ISD and CBTD, you will have the opportunity to apply your engineering expertise, leadership capabilities, and manufacturing process knowledge to advance technology, strengthen process ownership, and support product development and industrialization. Here, you will make an impact by:
- You will lead the manufacturing engineering function and provide direction to a team of engineers responsible for manufacturing processes, capital equipment, process technology, and technical project execution.
- You will take ownership of key manufacturing processes, ensuring robust process performance, reliable equipment operation, continuous improvement, and alignment with business, quality, safety, and productivity requirements.
- You will drive the adaptation, improvement, and implementation of manufacturing technologies to meet current and future business needs, including the identification of technical capability gaps and the development of solutions to close them.
- You will partner closely with product development, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and business teams to support the successful transfer of new or improved products into manufacturing.
- You will provide engineering leadership for product development and commercialization projects by ensuring manufacturability, scalability, process capability, and efficient transition from development to production.
- You will participate to plan and execute engineering and capital projects for manufacturing, laboratory, and technical areas, applying 3M standards, guidelines, and best practices to meet timing, budget, safety, quality, and functional requirements.
- You will contribute to capital planning by assessing process, equipment, and technology investment needs and aligning project priorities with strategic business plans, productivity goals, and financial targets.
- You will maintain and further develop the technical competency of the engineering team through coaching, training, resource planning, workload forecasting, and succession planning.
- You will ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, regulatory, quality, intellectual property, and corporate requirements while protecting 3M employees, assets, processes, and technologies.
- You will act as a key technical partner for internal stakeholders and represent manufacturing engineering in cross-functional teams, engineering committees, and business initiatives.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who meet following minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering sciences, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, process engineering, production engineering, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
- Extensive professional experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, production technology, product industrialization, or a related technical environment.
- Strong experience in manufacturing process ownership, including process performance management, process optimization, troubleshooting, and implementation of sustainable technical improvements.
- Proven experience in adapting, developing, or implementing manufacturing technologies, equipment solutions, or process platforms in an industrial environment.
- Experience supporting product development, new product introduction, scale-up, commercialization, or transfer of products from development into manufacturing.
- Strong project management skills, including planning and execution of capital, equipment, process, or technology projects.
- Leadership experience with responsibility for developing, coaching, and motivating technical teams.
- Ability to translate business and product requirements into reliable, scalable, and cost-effective manufacturing solutions.
Additional knowledge / nice-to-have skills / preferred qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Experience in process validation, process capability improvement, technology transfer, or design for manufacturability.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Operational Excellence, automation, digital manufacturing, or statistical process control.
- Fluent German (or willingness to learn fast) and good English language skills, both written and spoken.
- Knowledge of international Standards like IATF16949, ISO9001,14001,50001
- Member of the Site Operating Management team, reporting to the Site Leader
