At NSW Fair Trading, we’ve been on an exciting journey of transformation — re‑imagining how we deliver for the people and communities of NSW. Through our recent organisational realignment, we’ve built a new operating model designed to put customers at the centre of everything we do, strengthen our regulatory impact, and enable our people to thrive. We’re creating a more modern, responsive and risk‑based Fair Trading — one that understands the needs of people and businesses, embraces collaboration and innovation, and delivers better outcomes across the rental, strata, property and consumer markets we serve. This next phase brings new and exciting opportunities to join us in shaping “the new way” — where you can help design smarter regulation, improve customer experiences, and make a real difference for the people of NSW. If you’re someone who: - Thinks deeply about the needs of people and communities, - Is motivated by great outcomes, not just processes, and - Wants to be part of an organisation that’s transforming how regulation works — …then there’s a place for you in our future. Join us as we build a Fair Trading that’s fit for the future — one that’s customer‑centred, evidence‑driven, and proudly focused on public value.
About the team
NSW Fair Trading is responsible for the administration of property and consumer protection laws in NSW. The Fair Trading Digital team works collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to provide the best digital solutions for our customers. The team requires robust data transformation and analytical practices across the Salesforce platform and its integrated ecosystem. About the role The Senior Data Analyst plays a critical role in enabling successful data transformation and migration as part of major digital and platform modernisation initiatives. The role is responsible for understanding data structures, assessing data quality, defining transformation rules, and supporting end‑to‑end data migration activities to ensure data is accurate, trusted, and fit for use. The role also provides targeted analytical insights to support migration decisions, validate outcomes, and enable business confidence in transformed data. Working collaboratively with the Data Architect, Product Managers, Business Analysts and Engineers, the Senior Data Analyst will be embedded in all data related discovery, design, development, migration and go-live matters.
Your Responsibilities:
- Data transformation and migration: Design, document, and manage end‑to‑end source‑to‑target data mappings for complex system integrations, ensuring traceability and alignment with business and technical requirements. Be involved in all stages of data migration including profiling, mapping, cleansing and reconciliation.
- Data quality, validation and assurance: Design and maintain data models and datasets that ensure data outcomes meet agreed business rules, regulatory obligations, operational and analytics needs. Identify data quality issues, root causes, and remediation strategies in collaboration with business and technical stakeholders. Support defect analysis and triage related to migrated or transformed data.
- Analytics and insight: Support performance monitoring and benefits measurement, and contribute to dashboards or reports that enable data-driven decisions.
- Business and stakeholder engagement: Work with business subject ‑matter experts to understand how data is used in current and future processes. Translate complex data issues into clear impacts, options, and recommendations for non‑technical stakeholders. Support business readiness by helping stakeholders understand changes to data, definitions, and availability, because of migration.
- Governance, standards and continuous improvement: Maintain data quality and governance, meeting privacy, security and other requirements. Provide clear data advice, insights and improvements to business and technical stakeholders.
- Collaboration & agile delivery: Partner with program, product and engineering leads to shape requirements and delivery priorities. Provide end‑to‑end support across migration test phases, go‑live, and post‑implementation hypercare, ensuring service stability and structured handover to BAU operations. Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, and retrospectives.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Extensive experience delivering large‑scale technology data migrations
- Deep knowledge of ETL concepts with hands‑on experience using industry‑leading tools, such as Informatica and Microsoft SSIS, to design and implement robust, scalable data pipelines.
- Advanced SQL and data analysis expertise, with exceptional attention to detail and a strong focus on data accuracy, completeness, and integrity.
- Experience with AWS services including AWS Glue, Amazon S3, and other cloud-native data engineering and analytics solutions.
- Experience working with Python/Pyspark is highly regarded but not essential.
- Exposure to Salesforce platform migrations is highly favoured but not essential.
- Demonstrated commitment to data governance, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated capability to successfully manage and prioritise multiple deliverables simultaneously across a multi‑project environment.
- Work habits that prioritise outcomes, through commitment to speed, flexibility and quality of deliverables with minimal supervision.
- Experience with, or ability to adapt to NSW Government practices and standards.
