JOB SUMMARY: The Detroit Red Wings are currently seeking a full-time Data Engineer. This role will be responsible for supporting all internal data and infrastructure initiatives within Hockey Operations. This position will report to the Director of Statistical Analysis within Hockey Operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the consumption, storage, and maintenance of all hockey data. Design automated processes to oversee data integrity and query performance on a regular basis. Migrate/modernize existing legacy pipelines and build new ones to improve integration of disparate data sources and improve ease of use for integration of data into software tools and analysis pipelines. Oversee the integration of data into all hockey analytics and software systems. Maintain expertise in modern data management techniques within the fast-paced hockey technology landscape.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Understanding of modern data engineering and application of best practices. Expertise with large-scale relational databases, data modeling, and SQL. Experience building data warehouses for data science and analytics. Proficiency managing and working in a cloud computing environment (Azure, AWS etc.) Ability to build high-performance data pipelines which maintain data quality. Experience utilizing AI tools to analyze, refine, and refactor existing pipelines. Experience with at least one common programming language such as Java, Python, R, or C#. Passion for hockey and robust understanding of current hockey research.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Experience in sports industry and/or working with sports data. Familiarity with the hockey tech industry including third-party vendors and services. Understanding of stream processing, messaging systems, or other real-time data workflows. Experience with NoSQL storage technologies and considerations. Familiarity with software tools for data orchestration and/or workflow management. Experience working with high-fidelity sensor or tracking data sets.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office environment. Evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required.
