As a Data Analytics Intern at Xcel Energy in Texas, you will support the data analytics team in transforming complex utility data into actionable insights that drive operational efficiency, improve customer experience, enhance grid reliability, and support sustainable energy initiatives. You will work with large datasets related to energy usage, grid operations, customer behavior, outage management, and regulatory reporting. The role offers hands-on experience with industry-leading tools including Power BI for visualization and dashboards, Databricks for big data processing and analytics. This is an excellent opportunity to apply analytical skills to real-world challenges in the energy sector, such as demand forecasting, renewable integration, and operational optimization.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to: -    Develop and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports to visualize energy consumption trends, outage metrics, and key performance indicators for internal stakeholders and leadership. -    Perform exploratory data analysis and statistical modeling to identify patterns in customer usage, predict peak demand, or support asset management and predictive maintenance initiatives. -    Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, customer service, engineering) to gather requirements, clean data, and deliver analytical solutions that address business questions. -    Assist in ad-hoc reporting, data quality validation, and automation of routine analytics processes using tools like Excel. -    Document analytical findings, create presentations, and participate in team meetings to communicate insights effectively.

This position is for a May 31, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements: - Current student, Junior or higher (as of Fall 2027) - Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical/Industrial Engineering (with strong analytics focus), Information Systems, or Management Information Systems - Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Preferred Qualifications: -    Strong proficiency in Power BI -    Experience or coursework involving Databricks -    Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail with the ability to handle large, messy datasets. -    Strong communication skills – able to translate technical findings into clear business recommendations. -    Familiarity with the energy/utility industry, statistics, machine learning basics, or GIS tools is a strong advantage. -    Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $20.90 to $24.60 per hour
