The role

We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Engineering Manager to lead and empower our talented development teams. In this critical role, you'll be at the intersection of technical excellence, team growth, and product delivery. You'll use your technical expertise to guide architectural decisions and foster a culture of innovation, while primarily focusing on the personal and professional development of our engineers.

You will partner closely with Product Managers and the wider Engineering leadership team to drive our ambitious roadmap, ensuring we build scalable, high-quality solutions that directly impact users. Key responsibilities

  • Contributing to both the technical and product vision of your teams
  • Working closely with the teams’ Product Managers to share ownership of the delivery by unblocking the team and balancing quality with delivery
  • Using your technical experience to lead solution architecture and technical discussions, creating alignment across the platform and bringing the big picture context to your teams
  • Collaborating with the engineering management team to evolve our ways of working and our platform, designing team processes to create a great engineering culture
  • Heavily involved in expanding the team and onboarding
  • Looking after 1-2 teams of engineers, up to 8 direct reports
  • Guiding the personal and professional development of individual engineers, through regular 1 to 1s and continuous feedback

Skills

  • Prior experience of managing engineers and being in a leadership position
  • Experienced at explaining technical topics to non-technical business stakeholders
  • Previously worked as a lead software engineer or architect
  • Experienced in systems design
  • Passionate about technical excellence, automated testing, frequent deployments and agile processes
  • Commercial experience in any Object-Oriented language and JavaScript

Beneficial skills/interests but not essential

  • Experience with React/Next.js
  • Experience with Ruby
  • Experience with TypeScript
  • Knowledge of AWS and Heroku
