We are seeking a highly skilled, self-driven, motivated, enthusiastic, Senior Embedded Software Engineer with expertise in Embedded Linux development. The ideal candidate will design, develop, and maintain embedded software for next-generation medical devices, ensuring high performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.

You will be a member of the Acute Care & Monitoring (ACM) product development team. Specifically, you will join an R&D team creating category-redefining products for the high-growth airway management portfolio. Our team originated from Medtronic’s acquisition of Aircraft Medical and combines the agility of a startup with the support of an established manufacturer.

This position is responsible for developing specialized embedded software systems for healthcare workers, specifically related to airway management in acute care settings such as Operation Room, Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional team members, including software, hardware, mechanical, and systems engineers, to build the embedded device. You will be at the junction of user experience and software engineering, applying deep technical expertise to realize challenging design goals. This position applies technical expertise combining software and hardware in solving complex technical problems and provides solutions that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Work is performed with some direction and latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. The role will collaborate with cross-function team members including software, hardware, mechanical, and systems engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute across the software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, implementation, integration, testing, and maintenance.
  • Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded software using best practices for maintainability and scalability.
  • Support development of embedded Linux software, device interfaces, system services, and application-level functionality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project goals, deliverables, and technical solutions.
  • Integrate software with hardware components such as displays, cameras, sensors, and communication interfaces.
  • Implement and maintain secure boot processes, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and system diagnostics to ensure device integrity and reliability.
  • Generate and maintain technical documentation to support design controls and regulated product development.
  • Assist with software requirements development, unit testing, integration testing, code reviews, and software validation activities.
  • Focus on software reliability through appropriate design, verification, and problem-solving methods.
  • Support development and maintenance of internal software tools where needed.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement in engineering methods and product quality.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with 5+ years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong C and C++ development skills.
  • Experience developing software for embedded systems.
  • Experience working in Linux-based embedded environments.
  • Experience with common communication interfaces such as USB, UART, I2C, and SPI.
  • Understanding of version control systems and configuration management.
  • Experience with debugging tools and hardware-software integration activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with real-time software on microprocessor-based systems.
  • Experience with embedded graphics or GUI libraries such as Qt or LVGL.
  • Experience with driver development or maintenance.
  • Experience in a regulated development environment such as medical devices, aerospace, or defense.
  • Familiarity with IEC 62304, ISO 14971, and ISO 13485.
  • Experience with Python or shell scripting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and capacity to learn and apply new technologies quickly.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$116,800.00 - $175,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
