Business Intelligence Analyst

The Opportunity

Glass Roots Construction (GRC) is seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Analyst to turn raw operational, construction, and financial data into clear, usable insight for the people running the business. Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Systems, this is our first dedicated business intelligence role. It sits in Enterprise Systems because we are building a capability that serves the whole company rather than a single department, and the person in it will set patterns the rest of the organization builds on.

Our reporting environment is built on Zoho Analytics, drawing on data from Zoho CRM, where most of our operational data lives today, along with Zoho Projects, NetSuite, and our field systems. We prioritize deep industry domain knowledge over experience with any particular BI tool. We are looking for someone who understands the core drivers of utility and civil construction—including job costing, Work in Progress (WIP), backlog, change order management, equipment utilization, mobilization, and project margins—and who will reason through complex ERP data structures rather than consume pre-cleansed datasets.

This role is not the analyst of record for any one department. Departments have their own analytical leaders. Your job is to build the environment those people work in the reports, dashboards, data models, and self-service structures that let them answer their own questions quickly and trust the numbers when they do.

The first body of work is with Finance, in areas such as project completion and WIP, backlog and backlog burn, cost to complete, and revenue and cash forecasting. The specifics will be shaped with Finance rather than handed down. What we build there becomes the template for how we work with every other department. Beyond individual reports, the goal is a data environment that is deliberately organized and clearly labeled, where teams can answer routine questions themselves with proper training, where a metric means the same thing everywhere, and where our data is structured well enough to support AI-enabled tools as they mature.

You will not be doing this alone. Enterprise Systems is a small team in the middle of a significant expansion, and we are adding an Enterprise Systems Engineer alongside this role. We have made real progress over the past year. There is considerably more to do, and it is time for a dedicated resource.

Responsibilities

The Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for building the reporting and data environment that lets teams across the company understand project performance, financial position, and operational health.

• Financial and Project Reporting: Build and maintain the reporting finance and leadership depend on, in areas such as Work in Progress (WIP) and percent complete, backlog and backlog burn, cost to complete, funnel, and job-level margin performance.
• Dashboards and Self-Service: Develop dashboards and curated datasets for executive leadership, project teams, and field managers, so each audience can reach the measures that drive their decisions without waiting in a request queue.
• Data Models for Construction Operations: Translate how the business actually works—including job costing, approved and pending change orders, labor allocation, equipment utilization and mobilization, and margin performance—into data models that represent those concepts correctly and consistently.
• Semantic Layer and AI Readiness: Structure and label data from Zoho CRM, Zoho Projects, NetSuite, and field systems into a well-defined semantic layer, so both people and AI-enabled tools can query it reliably.
• Reporting Standards and Governance: Establish consistent metric definitions, data dictionaries, and reporting standards so a number means the same thing everywhere.
• Partnership and Enablement: Work with department analytical leads and business stakeholders to understand what they need, then train and support teams so they can serve themselves as reporting needs grow.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or financial analytics, with a strong background in construction, utility contracting, telecom, trade services, or heavy civil industries (or a dedicated finance/accounting analytics seat).
• Deep understanding of construction finance concepts: job costing, Work in Progress (WIP), percent complete, backlog, change orders, cost to complete, labor burden, equipment rates, and project margins.
• Proven ability to reason about backend ERP data structures and complex relational databases (SQL, data modeling) rather than simply consuming pre-cleansed datasets.
• Experience defining KPIs, reporting standards, and data governance practices.
• Comfortable working directly with executive leadership and department analytical leads to translate their questions into data models and reporting they can use.
• Strong communication and enablement skills to train and consult with non-technical business partners.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with modern BI tools such as Zoho Analytics, Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik (dashboard tools are teachable; domain experience is paramount).
• Experience working with data from ERP systems such as NetSuite, Foundation, Viewpoint, Sage, or similar construction and financial ERPs.
• Familiarity with telecommunications or underground utility construction terminology (FTTx, Outside Plant / OSP).

Additional Information

Salary Range: $105,000 - $125,000 Salary, + Bonus - based on experience

Schedule: Day Shift: Monday - Friday

Travel Requirements: 0% - 5%
