Graphic Designer (Integrated Creative)

As a Graphic Designer (Integrated Creative), you will develop and execute visual communications for the Airports Authority. Working as part of the in-house marketing team, you will translate marketing strategies and business objectives into effective creative concepts and visual solutions across digital, social, print, environmental, and other media.

Manages assigned projects from initial concept through final production, applying graphic design skills and knowledge of production methods to develop high-quality, technically accurate creative materials. Provides design recommendations and support to internal clients and collaborates with marketing staff, vendors, external agencies, and other creative partners to ensure consistent and effective execution of the Airports Authority’s visual communications and brand standards.

Serves in the Office of Marketing and Revenue.

The position supports marketing and communications initiatives for Washington Dulles International Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, the Dulles Toll Road, and the Airports Authority's corporate entity, and collaborates closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, external agencies, and Authority leadership.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops original creative concepts and visual solutions for marketing campaigns, passenger communications, brand initiatives, airport programs, and other Authority priorities.

Designs and produces visual materials for digital, social media, print, environmental, and other communication channels.

Develops visual approaches that can be adapted across multiple media and formats while maintaining consistency with the Airports Authority’s brand standards.

Translates marketing strategies and business objectives into compelling visual communications using effective design, typography, composition, color, and visual hierarchy.

Develops and produces high-quality design materials using advanced Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.  

Develops layouts, illustrations, iconography, infographics, photo compositions, and other visual assets as required for assigned projects.

Designs and prepares production-ready artwork for large-format applications, including murals, billboards, terminal graphics, displays, banners, signage, and other environmental installations.

Applies knowledge of print and large-format production requirements, including resolution, scale, color management, materials, file preparation, proofing, and production specifications.

Coordinates with printers, fabricators, installers, agencies, contractors, and other vendors to ensure creative work meets approved design and production requirements.

Reviews proofs, production samples, color tests, mockups, and other materials to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency with approved creative direction.

Provides design recommendations and support to internal clients, marketing staff, and external creative partners.

Creates presentations and other visual materials for senior leadership, internal clients, external stakeholders, marketing initiatives, and special events.

Supports photography, videography, motion graphics, animation, and multimedia projects as appropriate to project requirements.

Collaborates with Corporate Marketing staff, Authority departments, consultants, architects, creative agencies, photographers, videographers, and other partners to support integrated marketing and communications initiatives.

Manages multiple design assignments, establishes priorities in consultation with the supervisor, and delivers projects within established schedules and budgets.

Maintains organized project files, production assets, source materials, and creative resources and stays current with design, digital media, production techniques, and emerging creative technologies.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in graphic design and producing graphics and printer-ready materials, or an equivalent combination of education, demonstrated portfolio, and relevant professional experience.

Demonstrated experience developing creative concepts and visual solutions for marketing, advertising, communications, branding, or related initiatives.

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and the ability to use graphic design and editing software to produce sophisticated visual communications.

Strong knowledge of graphic design and layout, typography, composition, color theory, visual hierarchy, branding, image development, and contemporary design principles.

Demonstrated experience designing and preparing production-ready artwork for professional print, digital, large-format, or environmental applications, including knowledge of applicable production processes and techniques.

Ability to manage assigned creative projects from concept through final execution, manage multiple assignments concurrently, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and work within established budgets and production requirements.

Strong creative problem-solving skills and ability to translate broad marketing strategies or business objectives into effective visual communications.

Ability to present and explain creative concepts clearly and effectively to both creative and non-creative stakeholders and to establish productive working relationships with internal clients, senior leaders, vendors, consultants, and external creative partners.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing technically accurate, polished work while maintaining the Airports Authority’s brand standards and established policies.

Ability to speak and write effectively.

Ability to analyze data and information and make recommendations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Fine Arts, Digital Media, or a closely related field.

Experience developing creative for digital channels, including social media, digital advertising, websites, email marketing, and digital communications.

Experience designing large-format environmental graphics, including murals, billboards, signage, exhibits, architectural installations, or other public-facing applications.

Experience working with commercial printers, large-format fabricators, installers, and production vendors, advertising agencies, photographers, videographers, or other external creative partners.

Experience with motion design, animation, photography, photo compositing, or advanced image retouching.

Experience supporting high-profile consumer brands, transportation, aviation, hospitality, travel, destination marketing, or large public-facing organizations and familiarity with accessibility requirements.

Experience with Adobe After Effects or other applications.

Familiarity with project management platforms such as Monday.com.

Experience incorporating AI-assisted creative tools into a professional design workflow.

EDUCATION

A high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED

NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS

May be required to work evenings or weekends to meet deadlines or to film special events.

May be subject to adverse weather conditions when filming outside and at other on-scene locations.

Subject to job pressures from tight deadlines, media demands for information in emergencies, and other situational factors.

Must be able to move throughout airport facilities and project sites, review large-format installations and environmental graphics in situ, and occasionally transport presentation materials, production samples, or photographic equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion by the immediate supervisor and others throughout production for quantity, quality, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.
