About the role

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is centered on the idea that respect and understanding of human rights can be a positive force for change in the world. The Project Manager, Facilities will support our collective efforts to build a workplace culture that is inclusive, equitable, innovative, and focused on inspiring action.

Reporting to the Manager, Facility Operations, the Project Manager, Facilities will work closely with contractors and all members of the division. They will be the primary contact for all internal partner and client facility support service project activities and will be responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, and execution from concept through to project design, engineering, procurement, and closing.

The incumbent will be a strong and thoughtful communicator, critical thinker, innovator, and will bring a collaborative approach to their role.

What you'll do

  • Contribute to a culture that promotes respect, equity, inclusion, and innovation and models anti-racist and accountable behaviours
  • Provide facilities support and manage all aspects of facilities projects as assigned.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans that include planning documents for initiation of projects, scope of work documents, requests for proposals, budgets, project schedules and other deliverables for the conceptualization, approval, and execution of facilities projects.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and ensure effective and timely written and verbal communication with all parties involved in all phases of the conceptualization, planning, execution and turn-over of the facilities projects to ensure that all prescribed activities are conducted in accordance with specified objectives.
  • Prepare and develop project reports and control project expenditures, scope, and schedule.
  • Review plans, specifications, and documentation for compliance with appropriate building codes, specifications and operational and project requirements.
  • Prepare requests for proposals and associated tasks for the acquisition and provision of necessary engineering and construction services.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing standards of practice.
  • Prepare and participate in the preparation of research reports, funding proposals, operation and maintenance procedure manuals and other written material and documentation.

What we're looking for

  • Completed education at the college or university level in a related discipline, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a related field.
  • Commitment to human rights principles, including respect, equity, inclusion, and dignity for all.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management specific to working with electrical and mechanical trades in new construction and in modifications to existing buildings.
  • Experience in coordinating, planning, and assisting with the execution of facilities projects.
  • Knowledge of building codes, standards of practice, construction contracts and contracting, and construction materials and methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of facility drawings, and ability to work with design software such as AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated experience in solving problems within a project framework by making collaborative decisions.
  • Skills in reading and interpreting plans and specifications and in comparing with project progress.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Desired Qualifications

  • Certification in Project management
  • Knowledge and experience working with project management software or tools
  • Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages
  • Ability to maintain a focus on customer/client support service
  • Facility operations experience (building management systems, operations, repair, etc.)

  • Work is in an office environment
  • May require lengthy periods at a desk, reading lengthy documents, and time in front of a computer
  • The occasional project / construction site work is required
  • Ability to work outside to monitor exterior projects in adverse weather
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required
