Job Summary
Autonomy Engineering is focused on enabling mission success through comprehensive on-board fault management and autonomy. Engineers in the group are integral throughout the entire program lifecycle. They define the underlying architecture for fault detection, isolation, and response (FDIR), and own the development and validation of satellite/constellation specific fault configuration(s). They are the chief architects and implementers of satellite/constellation autonomy, ensuring mission level objectives are met and spacecraft health and safety are always maintained. They are key stakeholders in the design and validation of mission CONOPS and Design Reference Missions (DRM), and participate in comprehensive end-to-end software integration, validation, and testing.
As the Autonomy Engineering Manager, you will be the primary point of contact for technical, budget, and resource allocation to meet team member needs, customer requirements, program needs, and company goals. You will set the engineering standard for the team, define roles and responsibilities, establish processes/workflow, and facilitate mentorship and training by Autonomy Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). You will ensure that programs are adequately staffed and program objectives are met on time and on budget. You will be involved in forecasting future staffing needs based on the new business pipeline, and you will work side-by-side with Millennium Recruiting to build the team at all experience levels. You will manage the performance of all members of the Autonomy team. You will coordinate Internal Research and Development (IRAD) and process/tool improvement initiatives with subject matter experts. Successful engineering team leads possess technical knowledge in the group's discipline as well as the leadership and communication skills needed to interact with engineers and the broader Millennium organization (Programs, Manufacturing, Mission Operations, HR, Recruiting, etc.).

Position Responsibilities:
- Manage team of ~10 engineers, including mentorship task assignments, facilitation of communication, and regular feedback
- Perform technical review in the area of Autonomy with support from SMEs
- Drive execution on programs for the Autonomy subsystem
- Develop and improve of engineering process
- Define the team's organizational, scope, and workflow to promote efficiency
- Grow the team through hiring and internal development
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 5 years experience in satellite design and/or operation
- 1-2 years experience as a technical leader managing complex projects or teams of engineers
- Strong Autonomy fundamentals and spacecraft system level knowledge (1+ year experience)
- Familiarity with satellite hardware and software (5 years experience)
- Ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- 9+ years experience in satellite design and/or operation
- Functional management experience
- Advanced understanding of satellite fault detection, isolation and response, as well as autonomy architectures
- Experience defining satellite & constellation CONOPS
- Experience in the on-orbit operation of satellites
- Deep experience in one or more satellite subsystems, including GNC, Power, Thermal, Flight Software, Payloads, Communication, etc.
- Strong fundamentals of project management, including monitoring cost and schedule performance
- Possess TS/SCI clearance

Summary Pay Range:
- Level K: $151,300 - $222,500
