Purpose of job:

We are seeking a proactive Product Support Engineer to provide technical support, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, product optimization and aftermarket support for the entire Sandvik Rock Processing product portfolio, encompassing Stationary Crushing & Screening, Mobile Crushing & Screening, Screening Solutions and Attachment Tools.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure and encourage a safe environment to work in by involvement in Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Risk Assessment, Safe Work Procedures and adherence to Sandvik and Customer EHS requirements.
  • Offer expert technical assistance for all products of Sandvik Rock Processing such as Stationary Crushing & Screening, Mobile Crushing & Screening, Screening Solutions and Attachment Tools.
  • Monitor and perform installation, commissioning, testing and startup of Sandvik equipment at customer sites.
  • Maximize equipment availability and reliability, undertake preventative, corrective and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Understand and fix mechanical, hydraulic, electrical/electronic and automation problems using engineering drawings, hydraulic schematics and electrical diagrams.
  • Conduct complex troubleshooting in PLC controlled systems, sensors, instrumentation, CAN bus communication networks and machine control systems as applicable.
  • Perform inspection, condition monitoring and equipment health assessment on machines and make detailed recommendations to enhance equipment performance and reliability.
  • Carry out Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for major equipment failures and recommend permanent corrective actions.
  • Assess the performance of the crushers and screens, adjust the setting as needed and suggest any necessary modifications to improve plant productivity, product quality and plant efficiency.
  • Assist customers in plant shutdowns, maintenance planning and installation of significant plant components.
  • Conduct technical training for customer maintenance/operational personnel in equipment operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, safe work practices and machine optimization.
  • Coordinate with the Sales and Aftermarket teams to uncover the opportunities for spares, wear parts, service contracts, upgrades, rebuilds and equipment modernization.
  • Support with equipment audits, technical inspection, feasibility studies and customer site assessments.
  • Support warranty investigations by carrying out technical inspections, gathering evidence and preparing reports, and liaising with Global Product Support, as needed.
  • Compile detailed service, commissioning, inspection, technical recommendations and customer visit reports within agreed timescales.
  • Support installation and commissioning of Sandvik digital solutions such as remote monitoring, condition monitoring and automation systems (where applicable)
  • Maintain good professional relationships with customers by regular site visits, technical support and regular communication.
  • Ensure customer issues are resolved in a timely manner, in collaboration with Sales, Supply Chain, Product Support, Planning and Global Technical Specialists.
  • Ensure all work is carried out to the Sandvik quality standards, customer needs, budgets and agreed schedules.
  • Ensure the maintenance of company tools, service equipment, measuring instruments and assigned assets.
  • Ensure the continuous improvement programs are continued through the identification of opportunities to enhance safety, service delivery, maintenance and operational efficiency.
  • Deliver agreed departmental and individual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Safety, Customer Satisfaction, Response Time, Equipment availability, technical support and aftermarket growth.
  • Follow all Sandvik policies, procedures, Code of Conduct and Environmental, Health and Safety requirements.
  • Carry out other responsibilities delegated by the Service Manager or Management to accomplish business goals.
  • Maintain good professional relationships with customers by regular site visits, technical support and regular communication.
  • Ensure customer issues are resolved in a timely manner, in collaboration with Sales, Supply Chain, Product Support, Planning and Global Technical Specialists.

Qualification

  • Have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role in the Mining Industry with screening experience
  • Acquired knowledge in Crushing and Screening operations in both surface and underground.
  • Strong business sense and EHS focus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and people management skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets and other MS office applications.
  • Experience with the SAP or other ERP systems is helpful.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary and provide guidance to members of the team.
  • Must be a smart worker who is self-motivated, performance-based outcomes orientated and needs no supervision.
  • Good problem-solving and investigative abilities.
  • Good commercial awareness and awareness of aftermarket opportunities.
  • Good planning and organization.
  • Familiarity with the regions of West Africa that are traveled.
  • Strong ability to operate effectively under pressure and deal with emergency breakdowns.
