Description

United Airlines’ Flight Operations Performance & Analytics team partners with business and technology leaders to improve operational performance through data-driven decision making. The team develops analytics products, forecasting models, automation, and decision-support solutions that support Flight Operations priorities. 

Role Overview 

This role applies advanced analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and statistical modeling techniques to solve complex business problems, improve operational efficiency, and support strategic initiatives across Flight Operations. The role works closely with business stakeholders, analysts, data engineers, and technology partners to develop scalable analytical solutions and clear, actionable recommendations. 

Job responsibilities:

• Execute solutions to business problems using statistical modeling, machine learning, optimization and predictive analytics techniques

• Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, risks and opportunities that improve operational decision making

• Design and deploy scalable analytical products, dashboards and automated decision-support solutions

• Develop AI and Generative AI use cases including LLM-based solutions, text analytics and workflow automation

• Partner with business stakeholders to translate operational challenges into analytical solutions and recommendations

• Continuously improve analytical methodologies, models and processes through innovation and best practices

This position is offered on local terms and conditions.  Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded. This position is for United Airlines Business Services Pvt. Ltd - a wholly owned subsidiary of United Airlines Inc.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

• Bachelor's degree
• Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, Economics, or related quantitative field 
• At least 3+ years of experience in modeling/ machine learning required
• Proven comfort and an intellectual curiosity for working with very large sets of data, and hands-on knowledge in predictive modeling
• Strong knowledge of either R or Python
• Be experienced in manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high dimensionality data from various sources to highlight patterns and relationships
• Understanding of how and when to apply predictive and machine learning techniques like logistic regression, random forest, GBM, Neural Nets, SVM etc. is required
• Be proficient in using database querying tools and able to write complex queries and procedures using Teradata SQL and/or Microsoft TSQL
• Experience building analytical outputs using Power BI or similar visualization tools
• Working knowledge of AI/GenAI concepts such as LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, AI model evaluation, and responsible AI considerations
• Being able to communicate complex quantitative analysis and algorithms in a clear, precise and actionable manner
• Exhibit written and spoken English fluency

• Master's degree
• Advanced degree in a related discipline 
• Aviation, operations analytics, transportation, logistics, or workforce planning experience 
• Relevant cloud, data science, AI, or analytics certifications 
• Experience with Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Azure, or similar platforms
• Hands on experience in using Big Data ecosystems (Hadoop/Spark), API Gateways and non-structured data will be a plus
• Exposure to MLOps, model deployment, monitoring, and production support practices. 
• Experience using Microsoft Copilot, Azure OpenAI, or other enterprise AI platforms. 
• Experience supporting operational decision-making in aviation or related environments.
