Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a cloud platform organization responsible for infrastructure, developer experience, DevSecOps, and site reliability engineering. This is a hands-on leadership role combining people management, technical strategy, and architectural oversight. The successful candidate will remain actively engaged in design reviews, complex technical decisions, incident response, and selected engineering initiatives while building a high-performing team.
People & Technical Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop platform engineers and technical leads, setting clear expectations for ownership, quality, and delivery.
- Drive career growth through mentoring, feedback, and succession planning.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, engineering standards, and critical design decisions.
- Balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical involvement without becoming a delivery bottleneck.
Platform Strategy & Architecture
- Define and execute the platform roadmap covering cloud infrastructure, developer experience, automation, and reliability.
- Lead architectural direction across cloud services, Kubernetes, networking, identity, and platform capabilities.
- Build scalable, secure, resilient, and cost-efficient platforms and reusable engineering patterns.
- Partner with engineering, security, networking, and product teams to ensure technical alignment.
Developer Platform & Automation
- Drive self-service platform capabilities, developer tooling, and standardized engineering workflows.
- Improve productivity through automation of provisioning, deployment, testing, and operational processes.
- Champion Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Terragrunt), engineering standards, and governance.
DevSecOps & Reliability
- Establish secure CI/CD and GitOps practices across software delivery pipelines.
- Embed security and compliance controls into engineering workflows.
- Drive service ownership, observability, SLO adoption, incident management, and operational excellence.
- Participate in major incidents, technical troubleshooting, and post-incident reviews.
Delivery & Stakeholder Management
- Own delivery of strategic platform initiatives, managing priorities, dependencies, and risks.
- Communicate roadmap progress, technical trade-offs, and operational health to senior stakeholders.
- Partner with FinOps and Finance to optimize cloud cost visibility, efficiency, and accountability.
Hands-On Expectations
- Maintain practical expertise in IaC, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, CI/CD, and automation technologies.
- Contribute to complex troubleshooting, platform modernization, migrations, and critical engineering initiatives as needed.
- Typically spend 20-30% of time on technical leadership and engineering activities.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience across cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or software engineering.
- 3-5+ years of engineering management experience.
- Recent hands-on experience building or operating cloud platforms in production.
- Strong expertise with Terraform/Terragrunt, Kubernetes, and modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience with CI/CD, GitOps, DevSecOps, observability, incident management, and reliability engineering.
- Programming or scripting experience in Python, Go, or Bash.
- Ability to balance delivery, reliability, security, developer experience, and cost optimization.
- Proven track record influencing technical strategy across multiple engineering teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with internal developer platforms (e.g., Backstage).
- Multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments.
- Large-scale platform transformations or cloud migrations.
- Exposure to Kafka, Redis, managed data services, or regulated environments.
- Relevant cloud, Kubernetes, or security certifications.
