As a Lead Software Engineer within PNC's Lending Technology organization, you can be based in Pittsburgh, PA or Dallas, TX.

Join a high-impact technology team focused on transforming the digital experience for credit card customers. This team supports critical customer journeys across the credit card lifecycle, including onboarding, lost card services, and other customer-facing experiences.

Working within an Agile environment, the Lead Software Developer will play a key role in designing, building, and modernizing applications that enhance customer interactions. While this is a full-stack position, the role is primarily backend-focused and will involve developing scalable APIs, contributing to microservices architecture, supporting production deployments, and mentoring junior engineers.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of customer-facing applications using Java for backend services and JavaScript for front-end functionality.
  • Develop and enhance scalable Spring-based applications that support critical credit card customer journeys.
  • Build and maintain Microservices architectures to enable flexible, resilient, and highly available solutions.
  • Design, develop, and integrate APIs to support seamless communication between applications and enterprise platforms.
  • Participate in software releases and production deployments, ensuring smooth implementation of new features and enhancements.
  • Perform comprehensive testing activities, including unit testing, integration testing, and validation of application functionality prior to deployment.
  • Serve as a technical lead within an Agile team, helping prioritize work, coordinate development efforts, and guide delivery objectives.
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to development standards, coding best practices, and overall solution quality.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers by providing technical guidance, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
  • Partner closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance engineering practices, application performance, and customer experience outcomes.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience developing enterprise applications using Java for object-oriented application and backend service development.
  • Experience utilizing Spring frameworks to build robust, maintainable, and scalable applications.
  • Proven experience with Microservices development, including designing and implementing distributed systems.
  • Hands-on experience with API Development, including creating, integrating, and supporting RESTful services.
  • Experience using JavaScript to develop and enhance user-facing application functionality.
  • Experience participating in software releases, deployment activities, and production support processes.
  • Strong testing background with experience validating application quality through automated and manual testing approaches.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience conducting code reviews, organizing development efforts, prioritizing work, and driving technical execution.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and fostering knowledge sharing within development teams.
  • Strong collaboration skills with experience working alongside product managers, business partners, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience working in Agile environments, participating in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and iterative delivery processes.
  • Experience developing front-end applications using Angular to build responsive and modern user interfaces.
  • Familiarity with Oracle databases for application data management, querying, and backend integrations.
  • Additional experience in designing and supporting enterprise-scale API Development initiatives.
  • Banking, financial services, or credit card industry experience, with an understanding of customer-facing financial products and digital customer journeys.
  • Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation or customer experience modernization initiatives.

Pay Transparency

Base Salary: $86,250.00 – $158,125.00

Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.
