Role Summary

This role manages technical support staff who provide technical support for the design and building of technical solutions. Provides leadership in designing, developing and implementing solutions in support of the business, according to standards and policies, while mentoring junior staff and guiding technology decisions.

Responsibilities

  • We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Manager of Cloud Platform Engineering to lead a team responsible for designing, supporting, and evolving cloud-based technology platforms. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, business judgment, and problem-solving ability.
  • The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader who can quickly recognize patterns, diagnose complex issues, navigate ambiguity, and make sound decisions that balance risk, operational stability, and business outcomes. While hands-on coding is not a primary responsibility, the successful candidate must possess sufficient technical depth to guide engineering teams, evaluate solutions, and influence architectural decisions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of cloud engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on cloud platform strategy, architecture, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with engineering, infrastructure, security, architecture, and business teams to deliver scalable and resilient solutions.
  • Facilitate technical decision-making by evaluating trade-offs, identifying risks, and aligning recommendations with organizational objectives.
  • Apply strong pattern recognition and analytical thinking to identify root causes, recurring issues, operational trends, and optimization opportunities.
  • Make informed judgment calls during incidents, escalations, and complex technical situations where complete information may not be available.
  • Drive issue resolution across organizational boundaries and remove obstacles preventing team success.
  • Establish operational best practices, governance processes, and performance metrics.
  • Support workforce planning, performance management, career development, and succession planning activities.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Manages the resolution of the most complex platform issues elevated from staff and clients.
  • Manages technical support staff who implement, monitor, troubleshoot, and install cloud computing platforms across all systems. Plans, develops, and executes short-range goals and strategies to meet department, divisional, and corporate objectives.
  • Develops and implements changes to department policies and standard operating procedures to meet changing business needs. Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement. Leads quality initiatives to improve the delivery of service levels.
  • Responsible for delivering software maintenance and ensuring optimization of system uptime and performance for critical technology is completed. Collaborates with key stakeholders to develop and maintain standards for platforms. Implements new technologies for enterprise-wide infrastructure projects.
  • Develops technical standards to serve Vanguard technical needs. Manages the ongoing performance of IT cloud vendor products and services.
  • Learns and understands client area business functions and requirements. Determines the appropriate technical tool to address the client's business needs.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain the security of cloud infrastructure, ensuring compliance with both internal business standards and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and monitor hybrid cloud environments, ensuring optimal performance, uptime, and resource allocation for the organization.
  • Develop and implement automation scripts to streamline the deployment, management, and scaling of cloud-based resources, improving operational efficiency.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for cloud architectures, designs, and system configurations to guide future development and operational support.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in managing complex enterprise-wide cloud infrastructure projects and environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expertise in designing, implementing, and supporting cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) at scale.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security principles, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Working knowledge of Agile methodology, JIRA, and Confluence for project and incident tracking.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services and cloud operating models.
  • Experience leading technical teams responsible for cloud infrastructure, platforms, or enterprise technology services.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify patterns, trends, and systemic issues across complex environments.
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to balance technical, operational, and business considerations.
  • Experience managing priorities across multiple initiatives and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience with enterprise cloud platforms, database technologies, data replication, automation, or infrastructure services.
  • Familiarity with DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, observability, and cloud governance practices.
  • AWS certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator.
  • Experience leading teams through transformation, modernization, or cloud migration initiatives.
