Manager, Platform Engineering — Application Platform
📍 Location: Hyderabad, India 🏢 Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office
About the Role
We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Application Platform team in Hyderabad — a newly formed team and a deliberate expansion of what our platform organization offers.
Hyland runs an internal Kubernetes platform that product teams deploy onto, across AWS and Azure. Two teams own it. One keeps the platform running. This team builds the interfaces product teams actually use — self-service provisioning of cloud resources, GitOps-based delivery and promotion, environment and tenancy management, and cloud-agnostic abstractions that behave the same way on either cloud. When a product team needs a queue, a bucket, an environment, or a path to production, they get it from this team's work — not from a ticket.
Some capabilities are already in motion, some already have users — but much of what this team will own is still to be defined and built. You'd be shaping it early, with real room to influence the direction rather than inherit it.
Success looks like product teams choosing the paved road over building their own, new services reaching production faster, developers who'd recommend the platform to a peer, and reliable operation of the services your team owns. Your Role Responsibilities? Here's What You'll Do.
- Lead, coach, and grow a distributed team of platform engineers across multiple time zones — owning hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development to build a high-performing, accountable team.
- Own the direction of a self-service provisioning capability that lets product teams declare the cloud resources they need through a Kubernetes-native API, with security, tagging, and cost guardrails applied by default.
- Own the delivery and promotion capabilities product teams use to reach production — including GitOps-based deployment, environment progression, approval and traceability controls, and progressive delivery patterns for teams running clusters outside the central platform.
- Drive a set of workload abstractions that behave consistently across AWS and Azure, so a team productive on one cloud is equally productive on the other without reinventing their workflow.
- Treat adoption as a first-class outcome — define what good looks like, instrument it, reduce the time it takes a team to get from nothing to running in production, and retire work that isn't earning its keep.
- Run what you build — your team carries on-call for the services it owns and is accountable for reliability, security posture, and compliance obligations; partner with runtime infrastructure, developer experience, and product engineering to maintain a single coherent path onto the platform.

Role Essentials
- 5+ years leading engineering teams — including teams delivering platform, infrastructure, or developer-facing products — with a Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience; production Kubernetes depth with enough hands-on fluency to review your team's work credibly and make sound architectural decisions.
- Demonstrated experience building self-service capabilities or internal APIs that other engineering teams consumed — with evidence of the measurable adoption that followed; product instincts applied internally, prioritizing against outcomes rather than requests and saying no to work that won't move adoption.
- Strong hands-on fluency with infrastructure as code and cloud-native services on both AWS and Azure; experience operating under security and compliance obligations such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
- Experience leading a distributed engineering team across multiple time zones — including asynchronous collaboration, shared on-call responsibilities, and accountability for managing to a budget.
- Comfortable negotiating priorities, standards, and interfaces with peer managers; excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with working knowledge of Agile or Scrum delivery practices.

- Background in enterprise software or another environment with real security scrutiny — where reliability, compliance, and customer trust are non-negotiable and built into how you operate.
