Who You Are:

Versar is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Senior Business Operations Analyst to provide financial and operational oversight for a portfolio of government and commercial projects. This role serves as a key business partner to Project Managers, Operations Leadership, Contracts, and Finance, ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and successful execution of project activities throughout the project lifecycle.

The Senior Business Operations Analyst is responsible for project setup, funding management, billing, revenue and cost analysis, forecasting, month-end close activities, financial reporting, and portfolio performance monitoring. This position plays a critical role in supporting strategic decision-making by providing accurate financial analysis and actionable insights into leadership.

What You’ll Do:

This role serves as a critical link between Operations, Finance, Contracts, and Project Management to ensure the successful financial performance and operational execution of Versar's project portfolio.

The successful Senior Business Operations Analyst will:

  • Maintain accurate financial oversight of assigned project portfolio.
  • Deliver timely and accurate invoices and financial reporting.
  • Proactively identify project risks and funding constraints.
  • Improve forecast accuracy and project profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual and company requirements.
  • Support successful month-end close and audit readiness.
  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to project and operational leadership.

Financial Management & Analysis

  • Manage the financial administration of a portfolio of projects from contract award through project closeout.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including revenue, direct costs, indirect costs, profitability, and cash flow.
  • Perform detailed variance analyses of actual results versus budget, forecast, and funding limitations.
  • Develop and maintain project forecasts, estimates at completion (EACs), and revenue projections.
  • Analyze project trends and identify financial risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.
  • Support annual budgeting, strategic planning, and financial forecasting initiatives.
  • Prepare and present financial reports and performance metrics to project and executive leadership.

Project Setup & Contract Administration

  • Coordinate project setup within Deltek Costpoint and other financial systems.
  • Review contract and task order documentation to ensure accurate project structure, labor categories, billing terms, and funding allocations.
  • Establish and maintain project work breakdown structures (WBS), charge codes, and reporting hierarchies.
  • Ensure projects comply with contractual, company, and regulatory requirements.

Funding & Revenue Management

  • Track funded values, contract ceilings, task order modifications, and remaining funding availability.
  • Monitor project burn rates and proactively identify funding limitations.
  • Coordinate with Program Managers, Contracts, and clients regarding funding actions and modifications.
  • Ensure revenue recognition is performed in accordance with contract terms and company policies.

Billing & Accounts Receivable

  • Manage monthly project billing activities and invoice preparation.
  • Review invoices for accuracy, compliance, and contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate with project teams to resolve billing issues and customer inquiries.
  • Monitor unbilled receivables and accounts receivable balances.
  • Support collection efforts and assist in resolving customer payment issues.
  • Analyze billing trends and recommend process improvements.

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

  • Lead financial month-end close activities for assigned portfolio.
  • Review project costs, labor charging, accruals, revenue adjustments, and journal entries.
  • Perform reconciliations and ensure data integrity within accounting systems.
  • Prepare monthly project financial packages and management reports.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing financial documentation and analysis.

Operational Support & Process Improvement

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Project Managers and Operations Leadership.
  • Develop financial models, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Identify opportunities to improve project financial controls, reporting efficiency, and business processes.
  • Support implementation of new systems, reporting tools, and process enhancements.
  • Mentor junior analysts and provide guidance on project financial management best practices.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in project finance, project controls, government contracting, business operations, or financial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of project accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience supporting multiple projects and project managers simultaneously.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling, and data analysis.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint or similar ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be proficient in English, both written and verbal, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Successful results of preemployment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen.
  • Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
  • Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate’s start date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Federal government contracts, task orders, and IDIQ programs.
  • Knowledge of FAR, CAS, and government contracting requirements.
  • Experience with Deltek Cognos, Power BI, or other reporting and business intelligence tools.
  • CPA, CMA, PMP, or related professional certification preferred.
  • Experience working in engineering, environmental, construction management, or professional services industries.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $115,000 - $135,000/year

Versar Global Solutions provides the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the Company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. Location Requirements

This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with employees expected to work several days each week from Versar's headquarters in Washington, DC.
