Full description
About the Role
Our platform sits between customer-facing systems and a network of partner and vendor APIs, including order management, provisioning, contract management, and field operations systems. Python is the language of this integration layer.
As a Senior Python Integration Engineer, you will design, build, and operate REST APIs, webhooks, and asynchronous integration services that enable reliable communication between internal systems and external partner platforms. This is a hands-on role with end-to-end production ownership, where you will design resilient integration solutions, monitor production services, and continuously improve platform reliability.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain Python integration services and REST APIs using Django/DRF, FastAPI, or Flask.
• Build and operate webhook consumers and event-driven processing pipelines, including signature verification, idempotent processing, retries, dead-letter handling, and event sequencing.
• Develop asynchronous processing solutions using queues and workers such as SQS, Lambda, Celery, or Kafka consumers.
• Configure and manage API gateway services (Kong or similar), including authentication, routing, rate limiting, and declarative configuration.
• Ensure data integrity across integrations by managing API schema evolution, data normalisation, reconciliation, and version compatibility.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and support production services using dashboards, logging, alerts, tracing, and operational runbooks.
• Manage infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Pulumi or Terraform across development and production environments.
• Improve application reliability through code reviews, automated testing, performance optimisation, and failure isolation.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external partners to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable integration solutions.
Requirements
• Minimum of four (4) years' professional experience developing backend services in Python using Django/DRF, FastAPI, or Flask.
• Strong experience integrating third-party APIs, including OAuth2, JWT, API Keys, HMAC, pagination, rate limiting, and API versioning.
• Experience designing and implementing asynchronous and event-driven architectures using SQS, Celery, Kafka, or similar technologies.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, transactions, query optimisation, and connection management.
• Experience deploying cloud-native applications on AWS using containers and/or serverless technologies.
• Strong understanding of structured logging, monitoring, metrics, alerting, and production incident management.
• Experience implementing automated testing using pytest, integration testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with Kong or other API gateway platforms.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Pulumi or Terraform.
• Experience within telecommunications, utilities, or similar integration-intensive environments.
• Production experience with Apache Kafka.
• Experience using Datadog or equivalent monitoring platforms.
• Experience with Docker Swarm or Kubernetes.
• Experience working directly with external vendors and engineering teams
