Are you ready to lead one of ING’s most impactful domains?

As IT Chapter Lead you are member of the Mortgages In Life Experience (ILX) Tech Management team. Here you will coach, lead and support +-90 engineers spread across the Netherlands, India, Philippines, Spain & Romania. As a member of the management team you will play a key role in digesting the ambition of ING Group and Mortgages NL, translating that ambition to objectives for the ILX Area and leading the successful delivery of those objectives according to the agreed upon timelines.

You are ambitious with what you and your chapter want to achieve. You stimulate your chapter members towards continuous improvement of their skills. You speak up and challenge the status quo. Next to this you are also part of the leadership team of the Area, which means you co-create the area vision and effectively resource the tribe and squads.

You will lead the technology behind Mortgages Upgrader, Upgrade Check, Affordability Check and Interest only Repayment Tools. The Affordability and Interest only tools are heavy regulated by the ECB.

  • Scalable and resilient under high load
  • Globally reusable while supporting local needs
  • Future-ready through AI and emerging technologies

Your role

You combine engineering leadership, people development, and technology vision.

You will:

  • Lead a chapter of engineers spread across 3 engineering teams within the Mortgages domain.
  • Drive chapter growth and engineering excellence
  • Contribute to Engineering Community and strategic direction
  • SPOC of area level Technology topic

What you will drive

Engineering Lead: 

  • Work closely with the Product Lead of the Mortgages Planetary and Financial Health Digital Product to define, drive and deliver on the product roadmap. 
  • Partner with 1st line, CISO and 2nd line risk to stay within risk appetite and mitigate any open issues affecting your area. 
  • Manage 2 cross functional teams, consisting of Frontend Engineers, Backend Engineers and Customer Journey Experts 
  • Partner with Architectural Leads and Domain Architects to ensure solutions are future proof.
  • Drive operational excellence in your product.

Platform & Engineering excellence

  • Ensure availability, scalability, and performance of critical services
  • Drive standardization and reusable platform design across products
  • Build systems that meet high-load and high-availability requirements

Technology innovation (incl. AI)

  • Act as a front runner in adopting new technologies and trends
  • Drive AI adoption as part of daily engineering practices
  • Translate technology demand into scalable solutions
  • Enable automation, intelligence, and efficiency improvements

People & Chapter leadership

  • Coach and develop high-performing engineers
  • Build a culture of continuous learning and innovation
  • Strengthen capabilities in modern engineering and AI-driven development

  • Strong background in backend engineering (Java ecosystem preferred)
  • Experience with high-load, distributed systems
