Assistant Manager, Project Management
Role Purpose
You will independently manage small to medium-sized projects from initiation through implementation, while supporting larger strategic programmes. This role is ideal for a driven project manager who enjoys bringing people together, solving problems, driving accountability and delivering results in a fast-paced environment and serves as a pathway towards senior project leadership roles.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Lead end-to-end delivery of cross-functional projects, ensuring agreed outcomes are delivered on time, within scope and within budget.
- Develop and manage project plans, milestones, dependencies, risks, issues and delivery schedules.
- Proactively identify delivery challenges, recommend solutions and escalate issues where appropriate.
- Facilitate workshops, project meetings and decision-making forums to maintain momentum and accountability.
- Ensure projects adhere to Sun Life governance, risk and financial management requirements.
- Support Senior Programme Managers on larger and complex initiatives.
Stakeholder Leadership
- Build strong relationships and alignment across diverse stakeholder groups, influence and drive accountability without direct authority.
- Communicate clearly project status, risks, decisions and recommendations.
- Support project sponsors and stakeholders in achieving successful business outcomes.
Financial Governance Management
- Manage project budgets, forecasts and expenditure for assigned projects.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting and governance artefacts.
- Ensure transparency and discipline in project tracking, forecasting and reporting.
Experience & Qualifications
- Approximately 5 years of project management experience delivering business and/or technology initiatives.
- Proven ability to independently manage projects through the full project lifecycle.
- Strong planning, organisation, problem-solving and execution skills.
- Experience managing project budgets, vendors and delivery risks.
- Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
- Financial services, insurance or regulated industry experience strongly preferred.
- PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent project management certification preferred.
