Data Center Project Manager - Compliance

Overview Microsoft’s Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) organization is the engine that powers Microsoft cloud services. The Datacenter Project Manager – Compliance supports the infrastructure and operational excellence behind services including Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Bing, OneDrive, and Xbox.

As a Datacenter Project Manager – Compliance, you will play a critical role in helping Microsoft’s data centre operations maintain the highest standards of compliance, audit readiness, operational excellence, and customer trust. You will partner closely with site operations, engineering, security, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), and business stakeholders to drive compliance programmes, support audits, manage governance requirements, and uphold operational standards across the Datacenter Metro.

In this role, you will lead compliance assessments, coordinate audit activities, and drive the resolution of corrective actions while managing key compliance and business continuity programmes. You will support the onboarding of new facilities, identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, and help mitigate compliance risks. Through your work, you will ensure data centre operations remain aligned with Microsoft standards, regulatory requirements, customer commitments, and industry best practices.

Responsibilities

• Drive compliance and audit readiness programs across the Data Center Metro, ensuring adherence to Microsoft standards, regulatory requirements, and operational governance expectations.
• Lead and coordinate internal, external, regulatory, and customer audits (R2A), including preparation, execution, remediation planning, and follow-up activities.
• Conduct site inspections, compliance assessments, and operational reviews to identify risks, control gaps, and improvement opportunities, driving corrective actions through closure.
• Own and execute Enterprise Governance, Risk & Compliance (EGRC) activities, including access reviews, control validations, wireless assessments, and compliance-related tasks.
• Partner with site operations, engineering, security, EHS, and business stakeholders to strengthen controls, resolve compliance gaps, and improve operational efficiencies.
• Manage compliance, business continuity, emergency preparedness, environmental, and audit documentation while ensuring alignment with Microsoft governance and retention requirements.
• Support onboarding of new data center facilities and maintain operational standards through regular presence in the data center environment, validating compliance with life safety, 5S, cleanliness, documentation, and Critical Environment requirements.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Experience managing or supporting compliance, governance, audit readiness, risk management, or EH&S programs within large-scale mission-critical environments.
• Experience supporting audits, assessments, inspections, investigations, or regulatory compliance activities.
• Proven ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholder groups and drive issue resolution, risk mitigation, and process improvement.

Background Check Requirement

This position requires successful completion of the Microsoft Cloud Background. Check upon hire or transfer every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting compliance programs within data center, cloud, critical infrastructure, or other regulated environments.
• Experience with certification and audit frameworks such as ISO 27001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, SOC, PCI, and customer audit programs.
• Demonstrated track record of operational excellence, risk reduction, and continuous improvement.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence outcomes without direct authority.
• Experience supporting business continuity, emergency preparedness, environmental compliance, or operational governance programs.

Data Center Operations Management IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across Germany is € 65,000.00 - € 106,000.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
