Cloud Security Architect
Locations: Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide
Employment Type: Contract / Permanent (subject to project requirements)

About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Security Architect to lead the design, implementation, and governance of secure cloud solutions across enterprise and government environments. This role is ideal for a highly skilled cybersecurity professional with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure, cloud-native security technologies, and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms, particularly Microsoft Sentinel and Splunk.
The successful candidate will be responsible for defining cloud security architectures, implementing security controls, developing monitoring and detection strategies, and establishing governance frameworks aligned with Australian Government security requirements, industry best practices, and Zero Trust principles.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Security Architecture
- Design and implement secure Azure cloud architectures for enterprise and government environments.
- Develop high-level and low-level security designs for cloud-based systems and services.
- Ensure security controls are embedded throughout the solution lifecycle.
- Provide security architecture guidance for cloud migration, modernization, and transformation initiatives.
- Establish cloud security standards, patterns, and reference architectures.
Security Operations & Monitoring
- Design, implement, and optimize SIEM solutions using Microsoft Sentinel and Splunk.
- Develop detection use cases, correlation rules, dashboards, and automated response capabilities.
- Lead security monitoring strategies and continuous threat detection improvements.
- Collaborate with Security Operations Centres (SOC) and Incident Response teams to improve cyber resilience and operational effectiveness.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure cloud environments comply with relevant security frameworks and standards including:
- ASD ISM
- Essential Eight
- PSPF
- NIST
- ISO 27001
- Conduct security risk assessments and provide remediation recommendations.
- Support security accreditation and Authority to Operate (ATO) activities.
Identity & Access Management
- Design and implement identity security solutions leveraging:
- Microsoft Entra ID
- Conditional Access
- Privileged Identity Management (PIM)
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
- Zero Trust Architecture
Stakeholder Engagement
- Provide trusted security advisory services to both technical and executive stakeholders.
- Lead architecture review sessions and technical workshops.
- Mentor engineers and project teams on cloud security best practices and secure design principles.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 7 years' experience in cybersecurity, including significant experience in cloud security architecture.
- Extensive hands-on experience with:
- Microsoft Azure
- Microsoft Sentinel
- Splunk Enterprise Security
- Microsoft Defender suite
- Strong knowledge of:
- Cloud networking and hybrid cloud architectures
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Security automation
- DevSecOps practices
- Experience securing:
- Azure Landing Zones
- Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) environments
- Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions
- Kubernetes platforms
- Enterprise identity services
- Excellent technical documentation, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
Desirable Certifications
Candidates holding one or more of the following certifications will be highly regarded:
- Microsoft Cybersecurity Architect Expert (SC-100)
