About this role
As our Junior Android Software Engineer in Fintech, you’ll play a vital part in our team, collaborating with world-class engineers to design, implement, and maintain payment-related features for the Just Eat Takeaway Android app. You'll be instrumental in developing the native mobile experience for critical Fintech functionalities, crafting intuitive and secure user interfaces, and ensuring seamless integration between our platform and payment gateways using modern Android technologies and APIs.
Please note that this position is located in Enschede (3 days a week at our Enschede office and 2 days working from home)
These are some of the key components to the position:
- Develop scalable, high-performance native Android features for the Just Eat Takeaway app, specifically within the Fintech domain.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, Quality, Backend, iOS, Web and Senior Android Engineers to deliver and enhance mobile products.
- Troubleshoot bugs and resolve crashes to ensure app stability, high crash-free rates, and a seamless mobile payment experience.
- Document technical decisions and contribute to mobile architecture and technical strategy discussions.
- Work closely with QE and Support teams to reproduce mobile-specific issues and improve overall app quality.
- Participate in code reviews, write robust tests (e.g., unit tests and UI tests), and continuously optimize Android application performance.
- Continuously learn and adapt to modern Android technologies (such as Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and modern Android Architecture) and mobile best practices.
What will you bring to the team?
- Solid understanding of Kotlin and the Android SDK, including experience with modern asynchronous programming (e.g., Coroutines and Flow) and Android Architecture Components (MVVM, ViewModel). Experience with declarative UI (Jetpack Compose) is highly welcomed.
- Experience building native Android user interfaces, along with a strong grasp of RESTful APIs and networking libraries (e.g., Retrofit, OkHttp) for seamless communication with backend services.
- Familiarity with Android build tools (e.g., Gradle) and a basic understanding of mobile CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) for development and deployment workflows.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) for iterative development and effective teamwork.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and debug Android-specific issues (e.g., memory leaks, UI rendering glitches), delivering clean, well-documented, and maintainable code. Experience with Android testing frameworks (like JUnit, MockK/Mockito, or Espresso) is a plus.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work efficiently within a team and independently.
- Prior experience or strong interest in the Fintech domain is a significant plus, demonstrating an understanding of relevant industry practices like secure data handling.
