Senior Project Manager - Building Automation / HVAC Controls

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Controls Technician to install, commission, troubleshoot, and service commercial HVAC controls and building automation systems (BAS). This is a field-based position supporting commercial, industrial, and institutional projects throughout the region.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with DDC controls, low-voltage electrical systems, building automation, and commercial HVAC equipment. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to take control systems from installation and startup through commissioning and ongoing service.

The Controls Technician will work closely with project managers, controls programmers, engineers, contractors, and other field personnel to ensure systems are installed correctly, operate according to design requirements, and meet customer expectations.

Responsibilities

• Install, start up, commission, troubleshoot, and service HVAC control and building automation systems.

• Perform controller setup, point-to-point verification, wiring checks, system startups, and functional testing.

• Install and service DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, dampers, thermostats, and other control devices.

• Read and interpret control drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, and project specifications.

• Verify proper operation of HVAC equipment and associated control sequences.

• Diagnose and resolve issues involving low-voltage wiring, controllers, communication networks, programming, sensors, actuators, and HVAC equipment.

• Assist with system commissioning, functional performance testing, and final system verification.

• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, programmers, mechanical contractors, electricians, and other field personnel.

• Support customer training and provide clear explanations of system operation when required.

• Complete startup documentation, service reports, commissioning records, and other project documentation accurately and on time.

• Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and internal team members throughout project execution.

• Follow company safety procedures and all applicable jobsite requirements.

Requirements

• Previous experience with HVAC controls, building automation systems (BAS), DDC controls, or low-voltage control systems.

• Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequences of operation.

• Working knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment, including air handling units, rooftop units, VAV systems, boilers, chillers, pumps, and related equipment.

• Experience installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, or servicing building automation systems.

• Strong troubleshooting skills involving controls, electrical wiring, communication networks, sensors, actuators, and HVAC equipment.

• Understanding of DDC controllers and common building automation control strategies.

• Ability to use electrical meters and other diagnostic tools to troubleshoot field devices and control systems.

• Ability to work independently in the field while effectively collaborating with project and technical teams.

• Strong communication, organization, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to regional project sites as required.
