Full description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Manager, Software Engineering (Authentication) based in the United States.

The Senior Manager, Software Engineering will lead the teams responsible for high-performance cloud services powering real-time authentication and identity verification. This role combines strategic people leadership with deep technical oversight across distributed, customer-facing systems. You will shape the technical roadmap, operating model, and execution strategy for a critical authentication platform. The environment demands exceptional reliability, low latency, strong security, and disciplined incident management. You will work closely with Product, Security, Research, Platform, and other engineering teams to align technical investments with customer outcomes. The role also provides an opportunity to guide the responsible integration of AI/ML-powered trust signals into production systems. This is a high-impact leadership position for an experienced engineering manager who thrives on complex systems, operational excellence, and developing strong technical talent.

\n

Accountabilities:

  • Lead, develop, and mentor engineering managers, senior engineers, and emerging technical leaders, establishing clear ownership, growth paths, and effective operating rhythms.
  • Translate product and engineering strategy into a clear technical roadmap, execution plan, priorities, and operating model for the Authentication organization.
  • Improve the reliability, scalability, observability, and operational health of cloud-native, API-based distributed systems supporting real-time authentication.
  • Drive predictable and high-quality delivery across multiple initiatives through effective prioritization, planning, cross-team coordination, and execution discipline.
  • Establish and continuously raise engineering standards across architecture, testing, observability, CI/CD, incident response, postmortems, and operational practices.
  • Partner with Product, Research, Security, Platform, Customer Success, Support, and adjacent engineering teams to align priorities, technical investments, and customer outcomes.
  • Define and monitor metrics covering delivery health, system performance, engineering effectiveness, reliability, and on-call sustainability.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point during complex customer issues and production incidents, ensuring durable corrective actions and follow-through.
  • Guide the safe integration and operationalization of AI/ML-backed trust signals, model outputs, and automation within production authentication systems.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, continuous learning, collaboration, and calm execution during high-pressure situations.
  • Lead teams operating highly available production services with meaningful on-call responsibilities and continuously improve incident response and system resilience.

Requirements:

  • 8–12+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial experience building and operating distributed backend systems and APIs in production environments.
  • 3–5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including experience leading through engineering managers and/or senior technical leads.
  • Strong technical expertise in cloud-native architecture, microservices, observability, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices across AWS and/or GCP.
  • Proven track record improving reliability, engineering execution, and technical standards for customer-facing, high-availability systems.
  • Hands-on experience with backend technologies such as Go and/or Python, together with strong knowledge of data stores, service architecture, and low-latency system design.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills, with experience partnering across Product, Security, Support, Customer Success, Research, Platform, and engineering organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical and business objectives into clear, executable plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, developing managers and technical leaders, and building healthy, high-performing teams.
  • Experience working in environments that require operational resilience, incident response, and 24/7 production support.
  • Experience in authentication, identity, fraud prevention, risk engines, or other security-sensitive domains is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with IAM concepts and standards such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, RBAC, ABAC, or comparable policy-driven access models is desirable.
  • Experience partnering with Research, MLOps, or data teams to productionize model outputs, risk signals, or AI/ML-enabled capabilities is a plus.
  • Experience leading multi-cloud services with meaningful on-call and incident-management responsibilities is advantageous.
  • Strategically minded, technically credible, relationship-oriented, calm under pressure, and committed to engineering quality and team health.

Benefits:

  • Base salary range of $195,000–$235,000 USD, with eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
  • Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) for employees, providing an opportunity to participate in long-term company growth.
  • Remote-first work environment offering flexibility and autonomy.
  • Regular team onsite events, company-wide gatherings, and intentional opportunities for in-person collaboration.
  • Unlimited paid time off (PTO).
  • Multiple health and welfare plan options, including an employer-paid employee-only medical plan.
  • Employer contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
  • Low-cost dental and vision coverage for employees and families.
  • Paid parental leave for birth, adoptive, and foster parents.
  • One year of diaper delivery for new parents.
  • Monthly phone and internet allowance to support remote work.
  • Enhanced fertility and GLP-1 benefits.
  • Annual Learning & Development stipend supporting professional development, certifications, and continued education.
  • Opportunity to lead mission-critical authentication and identity systems at the intersection of security, reliability, and AI.
  • Opportunity to influence technical strategy while developing engineering managers and senior technical talent.
