Job Summary

The Manager, Data Engineering plays a pivotal role in leading and overseeing a team of Data Engineers to ensure the efficient collection, storage, and analysis of large-scale data. This position involves strategic planning, execution, and maintenance of data infrastructure to support business objectives. Key responsibilities include managing project timelines, ensuring data pipeline reliability, and optimizing data systems for performance and scalability. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in data engineering, proficiency in relevant technologies, and a proven track record in team management and mentoring. This role is critical in driving data-driven decision-making and innovation across the enterprise.  

Essential Job Functions

  • Set business area priorities, allocate resources and develop plans for multiple related teams. Provide day-to-day work management, technical guidance, strategic direction, problem resolution, and career path development for Data Engineering team. - (20%)
  • Responsible for the framework development and execution of DataOps best practices. Accountable for the overall management of analytics projects; including timeliness, quality, and client value. - (15%)
  • Co-lead development and execution of highly complex and large scale data structures and pipelines to organize, collect and standardize data to generate insights and addresses reporting needs. Design complex, production systems and creates custom packages using multiple programming languages to solve challenging data engineering problems. - (20%)
  • Act as thought leader to provide expert technical consultation to senior IT management strategic planning groups. Mentor and manage a team of Data engineers & BI developers, develop a robust foundational layer of talent for the CoE. - (15%)
  • Work cross-functionally to develop effective communication and training vehicles for other IT and business teams on platform services and roadmaps, and elevate line function skills-sets in adeptly executing advanced analytics using central ways of working and tools. - (10%)
  • Ensure data security and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and internal policies. Develop and implement data security measures to protect sensitive information. Identify potential risks in data engineering processes and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring continuity and reliability of data services. - (20%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in modern data engineering technologies
  • 3+ years of experience leading teams of people in a professional setting.
  • Experience working data warehouses, including data warehouse technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ELT and reporting/analytic tools and environments.
  • Expert experience implementing complex, enterprise-wide data transformation and processing solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands on experience in Apache Hadoop Ecosystem like HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, HBase, Sqoop, Oozie, Spark and BigData Analytics. Certifications in technologies is preferred.
