At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.
A little more about your role…
This is your opportunity to manage the delivery of large-scale projects in our Land discipline. Our clients are leading names in the aviation, highway, rail, energy & water industries, who rely on WSP to provide them with expert advice to ensure their large-scale infrastructure projects get off to the best possible start.
WSP has recently been appointed to several large-scale projects and needs a strong Project Manager to join us. Working within our Project Management Office (PMO), based in our Belfast office, you will manage projects for our Land Services team, which is based in offices around the UK and in India.
As a Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management and delivery of projects or significant work packages, ensuring that objectives, scope, deliverables and success criteria are clearly defined and understood. You will develop and maintain appropriate delivery plans, coordinate resources, manage dependencies and monitor performance to ensure successful delivery within agreed time, cost, quality and risk parameters.
You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective project controls and governance in accordance with WSP’s Business Management System. This will include programme and progress management, financial and commercial management, risk and issue management, change control, reporting and stakeholder management. You will use project information and performance data to identify emerging issues, make informed decisions and take appropriate corrective action.
Working closely with the Project Director, Technical Leads and wider project team, you will act as a key point of contact for the client and internal stakeholders. You will build effective working relationships, understand stakeholder needs and expectations, manage interfaces and dependencies, and ensure that project outcomes and benefits remain aligned with the client’s objectives.
You will take a proactive approach to managing risk and uncertainty, anticipating issues before they arise and developing appropriate mitigation and contingency measures. You will also ensure that project decisions, actions and changes are appropriately recorded, communicated and implemented.
Depending on the project, you may have responsibility for Assistant Project Managers, Project Coordinators or other members of the project team. You will provide clear direction, allocate work effectively, monitor performance and support the development of less experienced colleagues. You will contribute to creating a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing project environment.
You will also support the Project Director in ensuring that appropriate arrangements are in place for the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone working on the project. You will promote WSP’s values and contribute to a culture where people feel respected, included and able to perform at their best.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to broaden their experience across major infrastructure projects and develop towards Senior Project Manager level, with access to WSP’s wider project management community, professional development and career pathways.
Our hybrid working policy provides flexibility to work from home while also collaborating with colleagues and clients in our offices across the UK.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
We are looking for an energetic individual who can demonstrate experience in being a client-facing Project Manager on high value projects. You will need a degree or appropriate PM qualifications and an awareness of NEC contracts. If you are not a member of a Professional Institution, you will need to demonstrate an ability and willingness to become one. Ideally, you will have some knowledge and experience of UK planning processes or demonstrate your ability to learn quickly.
Desirable
Working knowledge of the planning process including, but not limited to, Development Consent Orders, Compulsory Purchase Orders, Town and Country Planning Acts or the hybrid bill processes, to support technical delivery.
