Position Summary
The HVAC New Construction Apprentice supports the installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems on residential and commercial construction projects. This entry-level role provides hands-on training under the supervision of experienced installers, helping the apprentice develop technical skills, safety awareness, and knowledge of new construction practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist skilled HVAC installers with ductwork, piping, equipment placement, and system assembly on new construction sites
- Learn to read blueprints, schematics, and installation plans for proper system layout
- Handle tools, materials, and equipment safely and efficiently
- Support installation teams in setting up and connecting HVAC systems, including electrical and mechanical components
- Observe and participate in system start-ups, testing, and quality inspections
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites at all times
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA standards, and manufacturer installation guidelines
- Assist with loading and unloading materials and equipment at job sites
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working condition
- Attend training sessions, safety meetings, and mentoring programs
- Provide professional and courteous service when interacting with other trades or clients
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Enrollment in or completion of HVAC trade or technical school preferred
- No prior experience required; willingness to learn is essential
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- OSHA safety certification or ability to obtain preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic mechanical aptitude and hand-tool proficiency
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Attention to safety protocols and procedures
- Basic math and measurement skills
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds or more
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders or scaffolding
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics or crawlspaces
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Work Environment
- Residential and commercial new construction job sites
- Exposure to mechanical equipment, tools, dust, noise, and temperature extremes
- Field-based work with frequent travel between job sites
Schedule
- Typically Monday through Thursday
- Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required
Travel Requirements
- Local travel within assigned service territory
Training & Development
- Hands-on training with experienced installers on new construction projects
- Mentorship and guidance to develop skills in ductwork, piping, equipment installation, and system start-up
