Reporting to the General Manager Gas Operations East, we have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Asset Engineering to join our Gas East team, based in Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney.

In this critical leadership role, you'll lead the engineering function responsible for the safe, reliable and compliant operation of APA's gas assets, driving technical excellence, risk-based decision making and asset performance across the business. Working closely with operational and strategic stakeholders, you'll play a key role in shaping the future of our assets while building a culture of safety, innovation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Gas East engineering function, providing strategic technical leadership that supports the safe, reliable and compliant operation of a diverse portfolio of gas assets.
• Drive asset performance through risk based decision making, engineering excellence and the application of best practice asset management principles across operations and maintenance activities.
• Champion a culture of safety and care, fostering strong HSE, process safety and psychosocial safety outcomes while embedding continuous improvement across the engineering team.
• Provide technical governance and expert guidance on complex asset, operational and regulatory matters, building trusted relationships with regulators, contractors and external engineering partners.
• Lead the development of technical strategies, risk assessments, investigations and regulatory submissions, while supporting asset integration, lifecycle planning and future network growth opportunities.

Your background

• You will bring proven leadership experience in engineering or asset intensive environments, with a track record of building high performing teams and fostering a culture of accountability, safety and continuous improvement.
• You will have extensive experience managing critical infrastructure or asset portfolios, delivering safe, reliable and compliant operational outcomes through sound engineering practices.
• You will bring strong risk management capability, applying a risk based approach to decision making and navigating complex operational, regulatory and commercial challenges.
• You will have demonstrated financial and strategic acumen, including experience managing operating and capital budgets, forecasting future asset needs and driving asset performance improvements.
• You will bring exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with regulators, contractors, suppliers and senior business leaders.
• You will have a recognised engineering degree and hold, or be eligible to obtain, RPEQ registration (Queensland-based candidates) RPEV (Victoria-based candidates) or CPEng accreditation.
