Accountabilities The Senior Data Testing Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, accuracy, and performance of data systems by designing effective testing strategies, automating validation processes, and collaborating across engineering teams. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to identify and resolve complex data quality challenges.
- Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support quality objectives.
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts for data validation, comparison, and quality assurance.
- Validate data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and integrity across databases and downstream systems.
- Create and execute SQL queries to verify data transformations and investigate data-related issues.
- Perform functional, integration, regression, and automation testing for data-centric applications.
- Test data pipelines, ETL processes, APIs, and software solutions that rely on complex datasets.
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and data engineers to define test scenarios and ensure requirements are met.
- Investigate defects, perform root cause analysis, and partner with engineering teams to implement effective solutions.
- Document test cases, validation procedures, test results, and quality standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in automation frameworks, testing practices, and overall quality processes.
- Support initiatives that improve the stability, scalability, and reliability of retail data systems.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced quality engineering professional with a strong background in test automation, data validation, and software quality assurance. You should have excellent analytical skills, hands-on programming experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively within agile technology teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience as an SDET, Software Test Engineer, QA Automation Engineer, or similar role.
- Strong hands-on experience with test automation using Java and/or Python.
- Solid SQL skills with experience writing queries and validating data in SQL Server environments.
- Experience testing data pipelines, ETL workflows, APIs, and data-driven applications.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including functional, integration, regression, and automation testing.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with distributed teams.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and test automation frameworks.
- Experience validating large datasets, migrations, or complex data transformations is a plus.
- Exposure to cloud-based data platforms is beneficial.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work onsite in Cincinnati, Ohio, or willingness to relocate.
