Summary of the Associate Technical Writer
The Associate Technical Writer is responsible for documenting product features and maintaining end user documentation such as user guides, manuals, technical specifications, and knowledge articles. They will follow and apply documentation styles and standards to all assigned documentation.
The Associate Technical Writer will develop in-depth knowledge of the application and learn to analyze development requirements and specifications for information to write new and/or update existing user guide technical content and workflow procedures. They will also work with product experts and other technical writers for documentation reviews.
This is a remote position based in the United States. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this role. The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000 per year, DOE.
Responsibilities of the Associate Technical Writer
- Executes procedures of moderate complexity with high quality with a minimum degree of guidance
- Authors product user guides, manuals, technical specifications, and knowledge articles to help the end-user and administrator (customer) navigate through product feature changes and upgrades
- Adheres to company processes, styles, and standards to translate technical and functional information into user-friendly materials
- Interviews and coordinates with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy of all end-user content
- Assists with application product acceptance testing
- Supports other activities within the Technical Writing and Knowledge Management groups
Requirements for the Associate Technical Writer
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in Communications, Technical Writing, English, Computer Science, or Psychology
- 0 - 2 years of professional experience in technical writing or software documentation; internship experience and/or equivalent training; or equivalent combination of education such as a technical writing certificate
- Experience with MS Office suite, Google Apps, and graphic imaging software
- Experience with both print and digital media formats
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC)
- Effective active listening, verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Basic research, data gathering, and analysis skills
- Ability to interpret written requirements and technical specification documents
- Ability to be fluent with ideas, detail-oriented, innovative, and think creatively
- Ability to work independently or as a part of a team
- Time management and organizational skills
- Able to travel up to 10% of the time
Preferred Requirements for the Associate Technical Writer
- Experience with authoring tools such as but not limited to Adobe FrameMaker, Oxygen XML Editor, MadCap, Microsoft Word, and/or Markdown
- Knowledge of Digital Adoption Platforms (WalkMe) and Help Authoring Tools (RoboHelp)
